The funny thing with Metallica is, they occasionally produce music of astounding quality - classics, even - when they are not doing metal.

I agree with Pumo, the lead guitar is quite bluesy. A Telecaster, perhaps? In any case, a welcome departure from the standard hard-rock feel of Descent. Suggestion: further instrumentation. How about using the guitar’s clean sound for the harp-like part in the beginning? Furthermore, a real electric...

I’ve revamped my mouse config slightly. My reasoning is as follows: The left hand’s starting point is W, A, S and D as dedicated sliding keys. Slide Left: A ( ring finger ) Slide Right: D ( index finger ) Slide Up: W ( middle finger ) Slide Down: S ( middle finger ) Of the still unused little finger...

Doing multiple things at once (he demonstrates some of this of course); turning as fast as possible; rapid direction changes; that sort of thing. One of the biggest config issues you can face in dogfighting is that if your keyboard can't handle at least ~5 simultaneous keypresses it can stop you do...

Hm. He does know how to fly, but those videos don't really put him past any other reasonably proficient player (I can do all the same stuff). The acid test of a configuration tends to be dogfighting other players. What aspects of the configuration would be tested by dogfighting that wouldn't be tes...

For what it's worth, I'll quote the configuration of stx-Vile (AKA dadevore): I use keyboard+mouse as well. D1X offers some nice gameplay features such as rebinding what keys are the weapons, instead of limiting them to the number keys. There's no way I'm reaching for the 0 key in the middle of a ru...

I'm thinking, "Aww "

Now you'll have to make a "Notice to parents: contains wheat" warning for the in-game bot too. :P

I use the mouse, and like many others I have W, A, S and D as dedicated sliding keys. I don't understand why people keep Q and E for banking, though: when I tried that, key conflicts inhibited banking while triple chording (sometimes also dual chording), even if using modifier keys such as Ctrl or S...

... He also made 'vampyro' and 'dark side of the moon'... One of the things I liked best about Vampyro was the intro. I’ve got to quote it here – it’s just jolly good writing: February 22nd 1681 – Your name is Count Gregor, and you are master of a small castle in rural Transylvania. You have lived ...

I've done some testing with a friend now ... we could not see each other on the tracker, but we did manage to set up a game (which I hosted) by exchanging IP addresses. I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but if I doubleclick on the "1 tracker found" message in the Netga...

The problem is, I don't have any firewall program (my Windows firewall is completely deactivated). The router has a firewall, but I have completely deactivated that too (and in any case, it should be overridden by the router's "applications and games" control - in which I've set up an entr...

I am unable to check this myself, as starting up two D2X-XL instances simultaneously causes a crash. Thus I need external feedback. The name of the game is "Retz' game". The level is Minerva. By the way, if I press Enter in the "Select up to 8 players" screen, I get a warning tha...

Re: Sheet Music of Descent Midis?

Ladyhawk wrote:I've always liked the music for level 8 in Descent 1.

It's based on Grieg. No, really. Parts of the music for level 8 is a sped-up version of "Aase's Death", the sheet music for which you can download from The Mutopia Project.
