Well, that's interesting. Turning on the effects and turning everything to "none" made it work again... For a while. Upon shooting the switch located behind the lavafall in the red key room in the D2 Counterstrike capaign level 1, the game crashed. It seems rather sporadic. It's like the g...

Well now. Disabling the effects just made it crash the game. That makes... a lotta sense... I'm none to arrogant to admit it's the laptop. I do have my desktop for as long as my girlfriend's roommate is a jerk and won't let her use the internet router, though, so I'll just use D2X-XL on that...

D2X-XL Performance on Notebook

Yeah, so I have your typical all-business ASUS laptop that was affordable, has great battery life, runs applications extremely fast, and has some pretty awful graphics processing. I'm not opposed to using the -pured2 switch, but honestly, I downloaded D2X-XL for the physics upgrades (that said, the ...

You know, It seems like yesterday I downloaded W32 for the first time when the feature set was pretty limited... Still, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Still do. :D I guess at that time I was more or less interested in playing Descent 2 on modern hardware without many problems. Other than t...

I will, too, join the prayer for you, MB. As a third-year nursing student, I recognize the issues you are dealing with and certainly hope that you will remember to rest often, take in plenty of fluids as tolerated, and most of all, enjoy yourself. Remember, Descent is, and always has been, a source ...

The full 3D powerup option may be related to the onboard video card. I myself have a newer laptop with the Intel series 4 graphics chips, and while it is quite capable of running D2X-XL, I can't really boost many options with it (that's with an Intel Centrino 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM). I usua...

I have not played MP3 Corruption, but Echoes I have for the Gamecube... And, ironically, I consider it one of the finest examples of video gaming ever for these reasons: Epic boss battles: I found them unique and intense despite their length. Huge world: Not only is the size grand, but there are alw...

I know where the Vertigo campaign can be downloaded, but I've never done it myself since I question the legality of doing that. I do know that on Amazon, the Descent Definitive Collection can be bought "used" for usually less than 20 bucks (if I'm correct, that includes D1, D2, Vertigo, Le...

Curious: If D2X-XL works with the demo data, I'm wondering why it doesn't work with Destination: Quartzon. Did the demo have a fire.pig and ice.pig? Nonetheless, it's really worth your time to find and purchase the game. GOG.com sells Descent 1 and 2 together for 5.99 (which is a steal), and I've se...

Sorry, I didn't intend to make it sound like I thought your tutorial was worthless. This is especially helpful for D2 tracks since they are not freely distributable. Just saying that a quick-and-dirty solution to having Descent 1 MIDIs is in a simple .rar download. I mentioned the soundfont because ...

Aus-Red-5, I know that Linux Mint has a fantastic tool in which you can right-click inside of a window and select the option "Open as root" in which case you can modify things as root straight from the GUI file manager without having to use the terminal or logging out and back on as root. ...

Nice tutorial, but... This has been done, actually. D1 MIDI files in .mp3 format are available for download if you have purchased Descent 1 and 2 from Good Old Games. Elsewhere, they are available at: The Planet Descent Descent 1 music page - Courtesy of Valin Halcyon. Descent 2 tracks in .mp3 are n...

I believe the error is coming primarily from the lack of a true video card - it's pretty well documented that D2X-XL does not like my Intel GMA 950 graphics. It works for some users, and it crashes for others (despite the fact that I have the latest drivers). The Win32 version of D2X-XL performs in ...

Added to my package manager, downloaded, installed - that part went fine, but the executable did nothing to my knowledge. I do know that the whole computer slowed down and the fan turned on when I clicked it, so something must have happened, but I saw no tangible effect on-screen. I'm using Linux Mi...

I'm all for it. This will make D2X-XL much more accessible to the average Linux user - and much simpler for the advanced user. Perhaps these could eventually be accepted into Ubuntu repositories one day so that users can download and install D2X-XL with a package manager? After all, open-source port...
