Re: Development Blah: Comments

Is it still plagiarism if you totally re-write his code so it's a) easier to read and b) better? :P

Re: Rank your favorite and least favorite systems in Descent

I can't really rank my favourite systems because I haven't completed either First Strike or Counterstrike. However, I love the Limefrost Spiral, not because of its theme but because of the name. :) Some of the levels have strange names too, such as the Robby Mine. I assume it was designed by someone...

Re: Development Blah: Comments

Does the thief have an animation for the actual theft, i.e. is it possible to watch the thief steal a weapon from a player? If so, does that go for the energy thieves as well?

Re: Development Blah: Comments

Just checked the Blah. Verrry nice! :D I may have to create a few hexagonal rooms in my level, when I get back to it. :)

Re: Creating balls

Ironically, in this case, EMD might be better. You sort of need a little homing in the big spaces to hit things. But, since it's D2... What's EMD? I was thinking of throwing in some earthshakers as well given that there's so much space. I used the minemine cheat to practice throwing some around ins...

Re: Creating balls

Yap I think that would work. It would definitely look better than the only other way I can think of (using grates). When I said "the walls would be made out of metal cross shapes" I meant these things surrounding the vertical shaft: http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7820/d207wb4.jpg One ...

Re: Creating balls

Uh... like corridors surrounded by walls? I think it's time I told you how the level is going to work. Here's a picture of what I am after: http://www.pbase.com/image/83389018/original.jpg So my concept is that people will be able to fly around inside the sphere, shooting lasers and other energy we...

Re: Creating balls

Also, your exit door is set the wrong way around, meaning that the trigger arrow is pointing out rather than in. What happens is that the door opens and you can fly through it and down the tunnel without the end sequence starting. It is not until you fly back out the door that the sequence triggers...

Re: Development Blah: Comments

Back to the OpenGL based render ... the original software renderer does some things quite differently than OpenGL, and I was having a real hard time emulating it. On the other side did I find that the OpenGL based renderer creates a much better visual representation of a mine when viewing it from t...

Re: Descent Blog (Authors - Kak and Pumo)

Just curious, but why are you using rebirth rather than D2x-xl with all the enhancements turned off?

And he has a point, it is really easy to build pentagons, hexagons, octagons... nonagons... dodecahedrons... from cubes.

Now I think about it, that's a good point. Still, it'll be very nice to be able to do things with triangles. :D

Re: Development Blah: Comments

I think I will :coding: DLE-XP's renderer to use OpenGL. Fortunately I had already added an OpenGL renderer to DLE-XP once years ago, so I can build on what I did then. Ohhhhh! That is going to be so worth it. Square-based pyramids and triangle-based pyramids will be very useful. :)

Were you joking about the pyramid thing as well?
