Re: Peripheral Projected Illusions for Interactive Experienc

Microsoft research and development teams are extremely smart, it's a shame the higher-ups are so disconnected from the userbase. Anyway, adding this to XL is so unnecessary when the Oculus is soon to be a standard PC gaming peripheral. The idea might be smart in a technical sense, but probably not ...

Re: D2X-XL or DXX-Rebirth - which is better?

I don't think the 32-bit/64-bit paragraph is necessary in the setup section. I would just say make a shortcut to the 32-bit version and put the 64-bit/multithreading info in configuration or something. You probably don't want people to hit terms and concepts they may not understand right off the bat...

Re: D2X-XL or DXX-Rebirth - which is better?

Lots of valid points here. I would like to clarify some things though. Rebirth keeps the original gameplay and look of the game. I feel like XL is overmodded stuff. XL is regressive feature creep at its worst. To some, the theme is inconsistent when many of the graphical enhancements are enabled. Ha...

Re: Descent Retro Mod

Are the sniper packets sent at the usual rate? Aren't they sent immediately upon firing? When they "come in a package with the complete player position anyway", isn't that when the packet update occurs, not when the shot is fired? If the update rate is 10pps, and someone fires a shot 15ms ...

Re: Descent Retro Mod

The changes Drakona has made to the netcode currently seem pointless to me (particular the so-called "sniper packets"), but I need to learn more about them before I can make a final judgement. If I remember what they do correctly, they may be for the super hardcore players (again, the Ran...

Re: Descent Retro Mod

From my time dipping into Rebirth, Retro Mod (a poor name in my opinion) is a rebirth mod by a single person in an attempt to optimize the netcode and provide more consistent weapon results in netgames. Specifically, I believe she improved the accuracy of weapon firing angles between players. Retro ...

A little project of mine.

I'm posting this around a few Descent communities, thought someone here would get a kick out of it.

A lot of power for a bear.

Any word on MetalBeast?

His profile says his last visit was Feb, 2012. Does anyone have an update on his condition? It sounded like he was getting better, but now I'm worried :(

He has a user id of 2? How did that happen anyway?

Re: Demos?

<rambling> Game replays and recordings can be done one of 2 ways: Method 1 is the most popular, it involves storing only player input and random seeds. Everything is recalculated in real-time as it is played back. Games cannot be played backwards and rewinding requires resetting the game and simula...

Re: White Screen, no response on startup

Run it with the -printlog parameter (has to be an actual parameter, can't put it in d2x.ini) and post the resulting d2x.log

Re: The future

I have recently been working through D1 on dosbox (via GOG.) I feel like such a traitor, but there is something oddly satisfying about playing it at 300x240.

Re: a little problem wiith my computer :(

Could be a network device issue. Disable all network devices in the device manager then reboot and see if it still hangs?
