Re: Custom music

HI guys, For the longest time I too had issues with custom music. I followed all of the instructions very carefully including the removal of colons from the switches in the .ini, formatting to .ogg, and making sure that I included full file paths for everything. No luck. Then I came and searched the...

Re: importing descent's original models into editing program

That's perfect! Thanks Pumo. There is now a Pig in my modeling program (Rhinoceros 4). Hopefully I can get the others as well. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6116/6245162918_7f0a2d0131.jpg rhino pig by Y0SHIMITSU , on Flickr I have run into another problem though. The robots that have animations suc...

Re: importing descent's original models into editing program

Thanks for the tool Wolf. It does work to extract and save .oof models from descent 3, but unfortunately I get a "bad HOG file" when I try to access descent 1 or 2. It turns out that Descent 3 uses HOG2 files instead of HOG files. I have been continuing my search and I found a website host...

Re: importing descent's original models into editing program

I had the same thoughts Sirius. Descent2.com is the first place I checked. I remembered them actually having downloadable models of all the descent 1 and 2 robots, but it seems that all of their downloads are no longer available so no luck. Thanks for the input though.

Re: might as well post this here...

The two Saitek sticks are nearly identical except that the 3D Gold has an extra axis and base buttons. They do give me a little bit of back pain after a very long session but for the most part I find them comfortable. I have been using joysticks since Descent 2 came out when I was 6 years old and no...

importing descent's original models into editing programs

Hello all, I have been wondering for a while if there is a way to extract Descent and Descent 2's robot models and open them with an external modeling program. I have been toying with the idea of remodeling some or all of them with a higher level of detail and I would like to use the originals as te...

Re: might as well post this here...

I have tried mouse+keyboard, gamepad, and joystick and I have been able to make all of them work. My favorite configuration however is two joysticks, one for each hand. I have been using the same Saitek sticks for the past five or six years and they work well. They have been 100% reliable even thoug...

Re: It doesn't get much nerdier ...

Like Alter Fox I thought that pretty awesome too.

In a similar vein here is possibly one of the coolest (nerdiest) instruments I have ever seen, huge singing Tesla coils.

Re: Desktops of 2011

I still can't texture worth a damn but I can render in anaglyph now! (Love that 3D) I am using an image of my concept for an updated diamond claw for my desktop. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3170/diamondclawwallpaper.th.jpg http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3170/diamondclawwallpaper.jpg

finally my next try at a pyro

It's been on my mind to try modeling a new variation of the Pyro. It's obviously still in progress, but I was curious what people might think of it. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4019/4539976184_8a1f88d03a.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpisila/4539976184/sizes/l/ I'm also working on an updated d...

We should play sometime :). Definitely. The question is when. I haven't had the time to keep up to date or even play in about six months (college is eating my life), but I really want to get back into it again and what better way than by trying out multiplayer for the first time. Alter-Fox, The hel...

I have come to the discussion after the still face was introduced. I love the face. It reminds me strongly of a funny British "sport" called Gurning, or the art of making funny ugly faces.

I always found that the weapons' sound effects had a lot to do with how much I liked them. In this regard my favorites were always Gauss, Mercury Missiles, and Descent 2's Omega. On the whole I agree with everything people have said about the various weapons' strengths in certain situations. Gauss i...

"Bring me the Night" by Overkill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AnXxcqWv1o It's off their new album and is one of my favorite metal songs at the moment.

I love numerous heavy metal bands including many of the ones already mentioned, but Overkill is at the top of the list.

I love all of the above, but more importantly I love the fact that Descent 1 and 2 can actually be played on modern hardware.
