Test level I made crashes D2X-XL

Postby Schala » Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:51 am

I've been trying to learn DLE-XP and this first level I made causes the game to crash. It's a 2-cubed level with one cube a lot larger than the other and inside it is the Alien 2 Boss. I think it's the customization I set for it. Can someone take a look for me? Thanks.

It's in the attachment below.

Well I checked the Companion box, set the AI to normal... I thought that for my first level it'd be funny to have the Alien 2 boss play the guide bot role, but it's probably not going to do that.

I use 1.5.145, the 64-bit executable. Is that what you used? I've been finding 3rd party levels such as Pluton Outbreak crashing the game as well, whereas when I last played in 2006 it worked fine.

Nope. I use the normal d2x-xl.exe file running under Windows7 32bit version.

The Boss didn't act like a guide bot at all.

Maybe I should try the 32-bit normal executable. If it works in that then it'll be obvious the 64-bit executable is kinda picky.

Aha! It's OpenMP that's causing it! The 32 and 64 bit OMP versions do it. Normal executable doesn't. Likely doesn't for 64 bit either but 64-bit just has an OMP executable.

Cool.. I tried again and the boss does act like the guide bot, but he's not very nice shooting at me. Though the shots don't hurt me. :P

Haha yeah, I noticed that. Out of the 20 times he shot, 1 time got me for a hairline of health.

Lol -- I remember doing that once with a Project Mandrill robot in a modified Garbanofar (Descent Maximum level 23). Whenever the guidebot would find me it would peg me with a concussion missile and say "lets go!". It looked quite hilarious actually.

lol, that's like the equivalent to shooting a sow with a pistol instead of using a cattle prod.

If it was a flash missile it would have been even funnier: Guidebot flashes you: "Let's go!" Player: "Where?"
