I've got a small question on making lights brighter in DLE-XP. How can I do that?

Nice find pokeman 8) . Thank you very much and also to those who responded

Of course this thread is not over yet. I might come back here with general editor questions

It will take me a while to get used to the interface, sure is more of a challenge than other map editors I have used

Uhhh... I grabbed it from my Descent Definitive Collection Disc 3... I got the whole installation.
(The tut is in .WRI, I pulled that up in MS Word and made a .doc. It also includes the level file that it shows you how to make.)

Kaizerwolf, next time make a separate thread for questions.

Please don't pop in a thread asking question that has nothing to do with the topic.

Uhm. You can play with the illumination/depth settings in the lighting panel, but this will only work for regular D2 or D2X-XL where lightmaps are disabled (I'm pretty sure there's a way to do that but I haven't tried myself). If you want to brighten lights for general XL use, you'll need to adjust the brightness of the textures in question through the "Texture" panel. Many of the default light settings in DLE-XP/D2X-XL are fairly dim, which usually works, but if your level only has a few lights you might want to turn them up a bit.

Make sure you save the .lgt file into the HOG. Normal versions of D2 will simply ignore it, but D2X-XL uses these to generate the lightmaps.

1. Sorry. I saw it was a DLE-XP help topic and I thought I should mention that.
2. Oh. I never knew you could change the brightness of the light using the texture tab...

You can change any texture's brightmess, effectively turning it into a light - or making a light a non-light.

That's very helpful for e.g. creating a faint ambient light by giving a few textures widely used in a level a very low brightness (3 - 7%).

Oh, that makes sense. I see the texture brightness, and I can change the amount of light out of a light texture. Thanks!

The good thing about this feature is that it is compatible with all Descent versions.

The DLE-XP section on www.descent2.de (click on the DLE-XP logo on the home page) has a manual explaining most of the new features and offering a chapter about lighting with DLE-XP.
