Gentlemen, do you have Steam? I know Blarget and Aus-RED do. I highly recommend you get Steam, which is a free program designed to assist game organization, purchases, and communication with your friends. Along with friends, you can be part of "Groups", which have their own chat room and you can see who is online in the groups. D2X-XL happens to have their own group, and I hang in the chat room at all times when I'm able to play. It's VERY easy for quick matchmaking, and you can invite other people from the group into the chat room when you're ready to play.

If you arn't in it, I highly recommend you get Steam and become part of it! And if you are in it, I urge you to join the Group Chat room whenever you're online and available to play. I'll most likely be there ;) It will make matchmaking much easier. It also has voice communication capabilities, so we can work out problems faster than forum messages.

Why use a lightweight IRC client (Miranda anybody) when you can almost sink your system with Steam? :P

But you have to purchase them before you can.

Point is: Why get Steam if you don't play Steam games?

Very true. I just never see anyone in the IRC channel except a few guys who refuse to talk about D2X-XL :[ I'm usually in the IRC though.

Oh, yeah. Nvidia and ATI have deals where you can get HL2:DM, a bunch of Portal levels, Peggle, and HL2: Lost Coast for free.

Let's not forget that having any of those demos installs the Source engine on your computer, which means you can get Source engine mods! Some of them are better than full-fledged games, even!
