Is it worth it? I've looked it up, it looks impressive. Now I want opinions.

Totally worth it. I have yet to use the online services, but the single-player/coop game is already amazing. With FS open and the mediaVP's its taken to the next level. its awesome and i highly recommend it.

I have just downloaded and installed it (using the FSO installer and launcher), but the ships don't look any better than in the original. Is there anything I have to do to enable better looking models?

The MediaVP's packs are where the improvements are, they must be downloaded and selected in the launcher's MOD section, here i will attach picture (if i can....)

1st edit: oops prolly a little late, aparently you guys are 4 hours past midnight, whereas i am at 9:40pm
2nd edit: i am using the old VP's, i should probably update it, but its a real stable program the way ive got it now (huh kinda like D2xxl 1.15.157...)

Weird thing is, I neither got fs_open_3_6_10.exe nor Freespace || - 3.6.10 MediaVPs.

I've got fs_open_3_6_12r_INF.exe and MediaVPs_3612.

Well, I'll try and see what happens.

Edit:

Well, it said it couldn't find two ships for campain " " (empty string) when I launched the first FS2 training mission, and that because of that all kinds of weird things might happen.

ah... umm... yeah there are some bugs... mission three and most of the training missions. however if the debugger shows up, just spam the "OK" key (or whatever option doesn't make you end the program)
edit 1: But everything else works, just not those, so... i guess you get to do training the hard way i.e. learning on the fly, lol.

Actually I don't need the training. I have played FS 1 and 2 when they were new. I just quickly hopped into it to see the new ships and fx.

Hi,

Freespace 1 is one of my favorite game in that genre together with Wing Commander 3.
There is a mod available to play it again with improved graphics ? Fine, will check it soon.
And I am happy that Wing Commander will come back too... as a mod for FS2 (called Wing Commander Saga). The second episode reached beta status.

Is there a way to skip those tedious training missions? I always get stuck when being told to press \ for max speed. Somehow this is never recognized with my German keyboard, even if I hit the correct key I have bound to max speed.

i think there is during the pilot briefing? its up in one of the corners. yeaaah the training missions didn't help me at all the first time through, and now they are just annoying. half the maneuvers they teach you i never used again.

Umm - it says "The main Freespace 2 campaign is unavailable. Please deactivate the Freespace port mod to play it".

What?

So can I play FS2 with the new stuff or not?

I found out about it: The fsport mod converts FS1 to FS2. I just needed to install the mediavps mod.
