Destiny

Postby karx11erx » Sat Sep 13, 2014 5:50 pm

So who of you is playing Destiny? :D

I got the XB1 limited edition two days ago, and I am blown away by the graphics - despite all I have seen on the PC already. Gameplay is more or less your standard shooter stuff, but I find it rather hard to control the game with a gamepad ... will take a lot of practise to get good at it. :?

I've seen the trailers and commercials but I wasn't too impressed. They did a good job showing off the graphics and the engine but none of the commercials I've seen actually showed off the game.

Despite what Bungie says, it's not the new holy grail of computer gaming, and I don't find it innovative at all. That was all marketing blah, imo.

However, it's a standard shooter & role playing game mix, and it is pretty well executed and polished. You are having story missions and on top of that there are regular random bonus events (like destroying a huge walker or hunting a strong enemy character within limited time), bonus missions (like make 100 kills w/o dieing, or gather a certain amount of some game item), and strikes, where you can make extra XP and money ("glimmer"). You gather XP allowing you level up, getting better armor and weapons. You can play coop with up to two friends (3 player parties), which makes it more fun. The game will scale enemies with player count.

The game offers three character classes, but as far as I can tell the differences aren't very big and the gun choice and special effects very similar. Maybe that will change at higher character classes.

The graphics are spectacular . You are indeed playing in a huge open world, and exploring can get you in hot water if you are hitting an area with monsters high above your own character's level. You are not being thrown into that w/o a chance to escape.

I have installed a game controller update today, making control more fluid.

All in all I find Destiny very well done and pretty entertaining.

Hm. Okay. Not on PC, that's rather odd. Are they worried about console players getting their arses kicked by people who can actually aim?

Still, I have an XB1 so may look at it.

Well, consoles are much easier to handle development and copy protection wise.

And every good PC player would hand a good console player's ass to him because controlling a shooter with mouse + keyboard is so much easier.

If anybody cares....
I have Destiny for both PS4 and Xbone. Feel free to add me! AusRED5

PS... you can call it what you like (cheating or not) but I use mouse and keyboard for gaming on the consoles. XIM 4 <---- the BEST adapter ever!

I'm an average player so for me.. I'm on even grounds with k/d ratio for controller players. ;)
Heck, some controller players are freaks compared to me!

WOAH! I was so looking for this! I can get along with a gamepad so-so, but I can only marvel at console players who are truly adept with it.

Yep!
Though not cheap, but it's worth every penny, trust me!
I've been through 2 other different devises over the years and they came no where near the quality of this product!
I got the XIM 3 back in late 2011 or 12.

Anyways, XIM 4 is for last and current gen consoles with custom smart translators for each game that gives you 1:1 mouse movements within what the game allows.
No hacks or macros either for this product. ;)

I've posted some videos of my gameplays.

Does it work with Microsoft wireless input devices?

Wireless devices work....tho it's best to check the complete list of known working devices.

...very interesting. There are quite a few console games where I've thought "this would be so much easier if I didn't have to deal with getting the thumbstick direction wrong all the time". I may have to look at this sometime... less directions on a keyboard, but at least you always know left is left, not rotated 15 degrees off it.

I will stop playing Destiny until I have my XIM4. It's ridiculous how hard a shooter game is to play with a gamepad. That was a device built for 2D platform scrollers. Aiming and hitting while side strafing is a pain in the neck, and hitting fast moving targets like other players is completely impossible for me. It is beyond me how so many players I've seen in Destiny are capable of handling it so precisely. I never will. My hand also hurts from holding and operating a gamepad like it never does when playing with mouse + keyboard.

At the moment. The only real complaint with the XIM4 and Destiny is the turning while sprinting movements.
It seems slower then it should be. I haven't found a decent solution yet. :?

Tho I've learned to work with it for now. :P

Maybe post a feedback about it at the XIM website, so they might find a solution for that? Maybe the XIM people aren't aware of that.
