Not to come to anyone's defense nor is it my intention to offend anyone, however, does it really take banning an ip or domain name on a router to keep from clicking on a website? Couldn't a person say to themselves I just won't go there anymore?

Just asking.

Nope, Sykes is too much of a drama queen for that.

Sorry for reviving a 2 month old thread but I really must ask

What the hell happened here!?

I always though Sykes was a nice guy, then I leave this forum in June, come back in December and...this...

So he made a bold statement in a thread about DScent and another poster corrected him, challenging his wisdom as a programmer. I can see how that might upset the guy a bit but I cannot see how it would send him on a hellbent ranting spree that attacks this entire forum, it doesn't seem like the Sykes I knew.

But there's a deeper explanation behind his behaviour isnt there? His rage was constructed by something else, something that had been building up slowly over time. Being corrected in the DScent thread must have been the last push that made him snap

Can anyone offer a fair and neutral explanaton? Or is this still a sensitive issue?

I don't know why you would bring this back up, but Sykes has moved on in his life. he barley plays video games anymore. and he is not mad at anyone anymore. he has matured, and knows that Diedel would understand that, and everything is all over with. that pretty much sums it up....

the main reason Sykes raged quit in the 1st place is the fact that he views Diedel as a straight up narcissist, and believes we act like little puppies that play his game and act like he is not, but it really was not like that at all, i mean diedel can sometimes act a little ..well edgy, but sykes had a set mind point about things and as soon as another conflicting point hit, he just snapped.

now sykes is different then the man he was on the forums. He still isnt coming back though. he says it isnt worth his time. he has a life to live.

i hope that helps you.

Thanks, I brought this up out of curiousity really. Remember I've been gone for so long, I have no idea what has transpired in the previous months

If Sykes is at peace now I'll leave it at that then. No need for to me to contribute to a month old argument

diedel can sometimes act a little ..well edgy

He can be tense at times but we still love him

Sykes is the narcissist. He has always had a tendency to put himself in the foreground and behave like he'd be the one in charge, and when he started to attack me and received some correction he revealed a very arrogant and self-righteous side, offending me rather profoundly - and that is where I had to act. If I had told his parents about his behavior here I am sure it would have had rather serious consequences for him.

It was a typical case of teenager hybris (lots of people below 30 suffer from a prolongued case of that btw too), and I've seen that often enough before. Teenagers who believe they can be cheeky to a man almost three times their age are on the wrong track here.

About my being "edgy": I am rather straight forward, and people who cannot take a little bit of the truth will easily be offended by it and start whining around (usually elsewhere) about how bad and mean I am. What they completely fail to see is that w/o criticism you cannot improve. Well, I let them these days. People will get feedback from me only if it has to be (i.e. for the sake of the peace of this forum). Otherwise, if I don't like something but do not really need to bother about it, I'll just say nothing. I have learned that most people do not want to improve and do not ask for feedback to learn something. They want approval, they want their peers to clap on their shoulders and tell them that they're ok and whatever they do is great. Well, many things people do aren't great, and that kind of experience is something people should have had when you were a little child and mom and dad (hopefully) laid the foundations for a healthy self esteem in them, but apparently they haven't for some people. Then there is sociology, and it tells you that people only care about ethics as long as it serves their survival and well being. In other words: Find a group that behaves as bad as you do and gives you confirmation for your actions whatever they are, and you won't care about any moral or ethical standards (I have seen that in the descentbb.net and the descentforum.de forums).

Well, it's harder to grab your own nose than to point fingers at others.

very true. its just like what god said. "pull the log out of your own eye before you point out the dirt in someone else".
but as i said, Sykes has changed for the better. he is a completely different person now.

Funny enough many people who had a conflict because of their behavior here and who went to other places afterwards show that they have learned a lesson here that is beneficial for their lives.
