Number of players

Postby Randor244 » Tue May 12, 2009 2:13 pm

How many are playing online (through trackers) each day?
Not exactly of course, but maybe someone can give me a rough value?

I'm curious since I've found only one game in four days now...

You found a game randomly? Wow. If there were multiple people in it than it was probably arranged. Its best to get on the steam chat room and click "invite to chat", then click some people in the D2X-XL group if you want to play online. I once tried to make a "tracker spy" program to alert me if someone hosted a game, but I couldn't get python to interface with the tracker. (I should try again sometime)

Unfortunately, I won't be on much for about a month.

Yah that was me. I was playing with a family member. If I play singleplayer, I'll start it as a multiplayer co-op everytime. No reason not to :)

Ah, you must be the guy I saw in there earlier. I've always got an eye on the steam group, and if I see someone in there I jump in and see if they wanna play ;) but for the past couple weeks I've been unable to play D2X-XL 'cause I reinstalled my computer for the third time. Once I get D2X-XL running and customized, I'll be in there almost 24/7 ;) but to answer your question, no one plays randomly. There might be one or two games per week, unless Pokeman, Darklord and I are bug testing, then we might have one per day, or something. But Pokeman (I always call him that), Darklord, and I play online D2X-XL the most, and are very active on Steam. Hit one of us up if you want to play ;)

Yeah, actually I played with Darklord and Pokeman today :D

I'll be very active - online very often and almost always ready for a game ;)
And bug testing is very important :D

Me, Darklord, and Pokeman are very active bug testers. Most of what we do in an online game is run around looking for every valid bug possible, and pin them down as best we can. In fact, we pinned down an extremely fatal bug with the help of nesdude, and saved Diedel hours worth of useless code fishing. And even if we start playing for fun, we ALWAYS find a bug to report :P every time we play online, something productive comes out of it.

D2X-XL is crashing about once a day for me - so there must be more bugs to correct :D

I'll do my best as well of course. I'm a game developer myself so I know the hard work of bug testing ;)

Crashes need to be caught with VC++, or Diedel can't really do anything with it. And if he's able to reproduce it, you can bet that it would already be fixed :P

But anyway, this is getting a little off topic. Jump in the steam chat room ;)

There is a Steam chat room for D2X-XL? I did not know anything about this... When do games typically go on over there, if all of them are not arranged?

Games are going on all the time. Me, Darklord, Pokemon, and Thraka seem to be the most popular for match making there. But basically, you just jump in and say "Anyone up for a game?" and you're bound to get one or two. We've had a few 4-man games that were very successful. We can't wait to get over 4 people! You should jump in there!

Add me at childofmaud and I can send you an invite to the group.

CTF was pretty cool, 2vs2 :) I got a few feature requests to file for the hosting. I'm usually the host ;)
