Yeap, those news are starting to sound nice. :)

I hope this to follow like that, although i'm a bit 'scared' (to say it in that way) that some other ppl may screw the reconciliation intent (i'm thinking of Bubbalou and others). However, i also hope that Zico will do something to control the situation. I really wish this to have a 'happy ending' :)

As far as I am concerned he will certainly not be able to interfere with this, as I am not gonna waste any time or energy on him.

D2X-XL and Rebirth will always remain as separate projects, but cooperation between the D2X-XL and Rebirth communities could certainly go a long way.

It may lead to better support for both versions, more multiplayer activity and more stability depending on how well the developers and supporters work together. Just imagine if Rebirth could run D2X-XL specific levels in some form or another? Sure the smoke and lighting effects would have to be suppressed but more people would get to enjoy great levels that dedicated mappers still make for D2X-XL due to the new gameplay options it introduces

But most importantly the "faction" mentality must stop, I grow weary of DXX vs XL threads. I too hope for a "happy ending" to all of this.

I would definitely support such an endeavour... well, in a few ways. Even if I wasn't able to do much coding work (would like to try though, since game modding is something I haven't done as much as I'd like of), I could help with systematic testing or something like that. Then there's levels and other assets, and model converters if anyone wanted them. I've been hesitant to put too much work into D2 because it's kind of "the past", but if you're talking UE3 (or even UE2, really - or a non-Unreal engine if it is what you'd choose), that isn't a problem.

Donations will probably continue from time to time anyway. :)

Bubbalou is a troglodyte. No-one takes anything he says seriously anyway.

Not implying anything though

Actually the terms "[internet] troll" and "troglodyte" are interchangeable. Literally "troglodyte" means "caveman", but it also describes a person of particularly bad behavior, at least in German. I even wonder whether "[internet] troll" is actually derived from someone misunderstanding the term "troglodyte" ...

Conventional wisdom has it that it results from a case of confusion over a metaphorical reference to a type of fishing ("trolling" = basically dragging bait across a body of water at some speed, especially behind a boat, and seeing what bites). Thus, "trolls" refer to people who engage in that kind of behaviour. Although it is probably technically incorrect to derive the word in that manner, it is a bit more catchy than "trollers" since the word already exists and makes these people seem more unlikable. :)

As always happens with etymologies, of course, it's hard to be sure what really happened, but that seems to be the derivation that makes the most sense.

Well, it came as it had to come: There's flames ahead on the Rebirth forum again - and who's it coming from? Ah, guess: A dbb.net/com member. Who else.

http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/smf/index.php?topic=862.0

Thread had been about Yokelassence's awesome singleplayer mission "The Sphere". Tried to do something good to the Rebirth crowd, now as the fighting had ceased, so I thought. Having XL to play such an outstanding mission doesn't mean to give up Rebirth, or does it?

The fact that is replying is participating because the response is provoking a response.

Flip wrote:I don't need a crowd around me to put me at ease.

So why post his reply publicly? Seems to me he's looking for approval from others about his thoughts on the matter?

At least Diedel took it to PM.

Though I'll admit, the post was a tad out of place.
However, your intention IMHO wasn't to provoke or to get people to change sides, but rather, to share the work of the author's hard work and to bring attention to his DESCENT XL level.

Whether or not it's XL only, doesn't mean it's not DESCENT.

Last time I check. Rebirth is DESCENT too.

Aus-RED,

my reply in the DXX forum answers your criticism of my post having been out of place, too - and not everybody shares your opinion. It really depends on your bias.

karx11erx wrote:Flip,

I have made my post with a pure heart. Purer than yours, obviously. The analogy of me bringing roses when visiting your home and you being upset because being suspicious I wanted to seduce your wife would be more fitting.

If there was peace, there'd not be such a hullaballou about my posting about a great mission here just because it was XL only (and that goes to everybody who has taken offense). Everybody can use XL on special occasions like such a level only and doesn't have to kick out Rebirth for it.

All you did is basically point a dirty finger at me, throw up mud and use the old animosities between the two factions to make your futile point. Don't play the innocent saint now. It says all that while I took it to PM you have to make it public. You're exactly the kind of trouble maker I've experienced so much in the past, and the sanctimonious way you are trying to cover that up is simply dishonest. It was like this with you and your kind in the past, and it is still the same. Your seemingly kind words are dripping with venom.

Zico wasn't very serious about reconciling either, obviously.

The truth can be hard to bear.

What on earth happened there?

The mission is a D2X-XL exclusive because only D2X-XL currently supports 6000 segments. If I could make the mission run on Rebirth then I would, sorry guys. :clue:
