As I am left handed, the numerical keypad offered itself as main control center. Key layout:

Code: Select all

[  num lk  ] [  slow mo  ] [bullet time] [   flare   ]
[slide up  ] [   accel   ] [slide down ] [energy conv]
[slide left] [  reverse  ] [slide right] [           ]
[ bank left] [     2     ] [ bank right] [afterburner]
[      drop bomb         ] [toggle bomb] [           ]

The edit keypad left of the num keypad is bound like this:

Code: Select all

[   zoom   ] [ headlight   ]
[cruise off] [cruise faster]
[          ] [cruise slower]

That means that all movement and most auxiliary functions are in reach of my right hand.

Middle mouse button (wheel) is afterburner too if pressed down (my wheel is a button as with most modern wheel mice), roll up selects primaries, roll down selects secondaries.

I've found that Wheeze's control setup is by far the easiest to use... your hands sit nicely on the keys and all features are easily accessible.

Haha Thanks Red! Back in the 90's i used to play with the default descent configuration... Can't exactly rember how that looked, i remeber that a= accelerate, z=reverse spacebar=MISSILES!!!!! haha. But after years of playing ground pounding games, using the "WASD" configuration, i couldn't go back to the default. So using the basic WASD structure, i came up with that config.
works well for me, i just love how manoeverable you can be in descent!!!

Man Diedels setup, that baffled me a bit..... I suppose he is a lefty so.... and i'm sure he could destroy me in game... Mind you with all the work diedel does on descent, does he ever get any time to actually PLAY the game anymore? oOOOoooo *enters dangerous territory?* :)

No, you didn't, anyway I didn't know it ;)

"Man diedel's setup baffled me, but i suppose that all left handed people are highly dexterous, so he can probably handle it with ease" :P 8)

Zombie gave me that title. And Koolbear on dbb.net. Usually I just prefer "chief". :lolol:

(Please don't start calling me "chief" now ... :P)

Well, my mouse config usually is for single-player, although I probably have enough practice with it that I could play multi with it now.

Usually I bring out the joystick if I actually want to destroy people in multi-player... it's just that being a fairly stiff Evo, I don't like to use it for long - it's pretty tiring.

I've never had the priveledge of playing with a joystick, i would love to see what it is like... I guess there are many joysticks that work with mac osx yes?

I know this thread is over a month old, but since I'm new here, I wanted to comment.

I'm using Mouselook to control turning and climb/dive, and the arrow keys to control forward/back, slide left/right. I haven't really found a good setup for slide up/down, but I may try using the mousewheel for that.

I tried using a joystick, but it was hopeless! I grew up playing games with Atari-style digital sticks where you simply had to tilt your hand to move. By contrast, analog sticks seem cumbersome and sloppy to me. No matter what I do, it never feels like it's calibrated right (I adjust the trim controls and use the Windows calibration option, but they never seem to be truly centered). None of mine have enough buttons to really control the ship, so I still need to use the keyboard, which means that I have to place the stick on the desk, or in my lap and without a second hand to steady it, I end up swerving all over the place.
