Kevin Bentley contacted me!

Postby karx11erx » Sat Sep 19, 2009 11:00 am

A few days ago I had received a donation by Kevin Bentley. Reading that name made a bell ring in the back of my head, but I didn't quite know where to put it, and since there had been a discussion about fixing Saitek X52 support in D2X-XL recently I wondered whether he was one of the guys who had asked about it. So I asked back, and here is his reply:

Kevin Bentley wrote:You're very welcome, I'm really happy to see the work you're doing on D2X.

I don't know if my name sounds familiar, but I'm the one who put out the original source code for D1 and D2. I was one of the developers of Kahn (the Kali alternative) and was one of the Descent3 developers.

Added to all that, I'm a long time Descent fan. Another long term Descent fan named AaronB and I have a small business together, and we were talking about bringing in our joysticks and playing again. So I looked up what the best D2X build was and was very impressed with what I saw.

Great work, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

Kevin Bentley

Now this is what I'd call an accolade. :laola:

Oh, WOW! That's awesome! I'd feel more special meeting/getting complimented by him than I would any professional football player, or even Bill Gates! (okay, maybe not Bill Gates... But you get the idea :P )

Oh, this was recent? That's cool. I was thinking of Dan Wentz I guess.

Well ... the engine might be a better offset for modern graphics than the D2 engine ...

Ah... Kahn and Kali. Those were the days.

Edit: What a weird thing to edit out.

Hey guys, I'm honored that you found it to be an honor! :)

Aaronb and I have been having a lot of fun playing. I'm also getting up to speed on the code, trying to see where I might be able to add some value.

See you around the mines!

Karx is on vacation. But I am sure that he will be highly pleased, if he reads that ;-).

Hi Kevin :-)

Please no speedups. I need more slow motion to look if my textures are ok ;-)
