Dual vulcan.

Postby pokeman7452 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 5:49 pm

I came across this rendering by MetalBeast, and started drooling at the Black Pyro's dual vulcan cannons.

You added triple fusion, what about double vulcan?

Dual Vulcan wouldn't really be that cheap. Vulcan Cannon alone is pretty weak and I almost never use it once I get better weapons. But if I were to get double Vulcan Cannons, I might rethink using it again. However, Double Gauss might be cheap, so I'll say no to that.

From my experience I'd have to agree that dual vulcans wouldn't be that cheap seeing as you have to be very close to your opponent to do any respectable damage, and if you plan to get all up-close and personal you may as well use the Helix Cannon. I have to agree about dual Gauss being cheap since it's already an efficient and precise weapon, but wouldn't it be possible to create just a dual vulcan and not a dual gauss like they did with Triple Fusion? Or is there something about the Vulcan/Gauss that causes it to automatically stay double when you select the Gauss over the Vulcan?

Even if the Gauss inherits code from the Vulcan it should be easy to make the Vulcan upgradeable without applying that same feature to the Gauss

Hey while were at it lets give the spreadfire a bonus too.

Perversely, dual Vulcan/Gauss would probably make it fractionally harder to hit with. You'd get used to it, though.

As long as MB doesn't change the Pyro to be able to show two Vulcan/Gauss under the wings, this won't happen. And it doesn't look like MB will ever build a Descent ship again. If he would, I'd actually rather have him finish the Magnum and give that ship some brutal weaponry.

Hmm, what would have to be changed? Did he have to adapt it for triple fusion?

Yes. He has to build the proper submodel for each gun, plus place it at the proper location. Actually his Pyro has tons of submodels for each gun at each position, and D2X-XL always only renders those that should be visible.

I disagree. The Vulcan is actually quite useful before you get the Gauss, and here is why: because it hits so often, bots don't get a chance to fire at you, at least in D2.

And double fusion isn't already OHKO? I would suggest increasing the spread with two vulcans, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I agree with Kaizer, the vulcan has the ability to paralyze robots just like the omega can. Big slow robots are the most vulnerable to this because they cant avoid it and get pinned down. If I am in a tight enclosed space with tough missile firing robots right around a corner I will use the vulcan exclusively to take robots down before they can do any damage. Its very effective when used in the right places.

Once I get the omega or the pheonix however I tend to use those for that purpose instead.

Lol. The D1 strategy guide's reccomended way to fight a heavy hulk is "charge into him with your vulcan cannon blazing, and be ready to take one hit from a homing missile..."

Interestingly, when I played through D1 first strike on rookie about a month ago (I had never finished it before), I found the Plasma Cannon worked just as well, if not better.
