Re: Development Blah: Comments
v1.17.5 fails to load (every level or mission). When I disable hires textures, it will work fine. But the game looks not so good then.
Does someone still have the last stable version of D2X-XL and can maybe send a download link? Thanks so much!

Can you please send me your SDL_net and libpng library folders as neither of these compile on their own. Thanks.

Re: Development Blah: Comments
You need to find afxres.h. omp.h is only available in the full versions of MSVC, so you need to build the single threaded program version to debug it.

Re: Development Blah: Comments
2 things: how do I start a single threaded program?
I have just discovered by accident that the current version 1.17.12 will load an existing savegame but will not start a new one = out of memory error.
I will load up the savegame on SF
I remember seeing comments about guns not firing at the reticle point. guns do fire at reticle point if cockpit not shown

Re: Development Blah: Comments
Running it is the same as anything else - the difference is in a compiler setting.

If I had two more of me I'd be happy to debug D2X-XL as well but it is a very intimidating program in terms of lines of code
I'm not really sure how you managed to handle both DLE and D2X-XL at the same time for so long...

Re: Development Blah: Comments
That's because I am having a brain the size of the solar system ...
lol, no (or only because it is swollen insanely as I had to torment it so often with all this coding and bug fixing stuff).
I had a lot of time to work into both code bases, and I rewrote about 60+% of Descent 2 (into D2X-XL) and I as good as completely rewrote DLE. So I didn't have to work into two complex pieces of software from scratch, but I had a lot of time to learn them, and creating code means you know it really well.
That's how.
What is left about D2X-XL to be debugged? I thought I had addressed all serious problems in it by now. There are a few bug reports I cannot process due to missing data (savegame, player profile - the usual stuff) or because the stuff works for me.
Right now there is no show stopper I'd know of.
The Linux version has some compilation issues, but I cannot solve those because I don't have a working Linux installation anymore. After mine broke the fifth time, I just couldn't make myself reinstall it another time. Linux may be all fine and dandy regarding security, but what's the good of that if it destroys itself over time just by installing system updates?
If you want to start digging into D2X-XL (e.g. for bug fixing), I would be happy to help you getting into it.

Re: Development Blah: Comments
Hmm. Maybe I should try to test out multiplayer some... I know that for DLE at least, trying to use the program seriously was when bugs started popping out of the woodwork. I still can't believe nobody noticed (and there were people using it) that pressing F7 crashed the program. Maybe they did but didn't report it, that's fairly plausible
I figure if I start working on XL, though, over half the requests are going to be "can you make it run faster on my computer?" Probably possible, but it's definitely not my area of expertise. But reliability is a less daunting goal... hmm.
