Re: Development Blah: Comments
It's not that simple, but then people don't use D2X-XL for playing multiplayer via IPX (KALI), I guess, so it doesn't matter.

Nah, we play against other D2x-xl users. I was going to try if a person could use vanilla and connect to a d2x-xl game for jokes. But I wouldn't have recommend it to anyone. Instead get d2x-xl.

You'd need to figure out how to "bogusly" calculate the checksum, which means including both algorithms. It's not really worth it.

Re: Development Blah: Comments
Personally I feel that your desire to keep backward compatibility may have had its day.
Today's descent players seem to be divided into 2 camps and I doubt anyone would use absolute vanilla anymore or how much multi gameplay there is involving the 2 programs anyway.
In my opinion, if you can improve it even if it breaks compatibility, then do it and "tough" to those who complain.

Re: Development Blah: Comments
Most people with interest in both have both... vanilla D2 is usually only run under DOSBox, which is not network compatible with either of the newer projects. There are probably some people who maintain old Win98 systems for the purpose of running original D2 or D2_3DFX over Kali, but they're exceedingly rare now.

1.15.220 download links seem to redirect to the downloads page - probably not just here too early?

Re: Development Blah: Comments
Pulled due to another weird flaw (not lightmap, but lighting related).

Re: Development Blah: Comments
I wonder, if you weren't such a perfectionist, what would D2X-XL be now?
Probably not nearly as good.
EDIT: Do you think we should have 1.16 now? (With the new lighting, shockwaves, new shadows, and everything?)

Well, I checked out .222 and I must say I like the lighting very much.
Even if I am an 'oversaturated lightmaps' guy, I must say the new lightmaps are of great quality, and that I love the new precission and shadowing, and also how it looks the dynamic light travel on this last version.
The only thing I have left to say is that this is a great work!

I've just had a look at all the updates you've done in the last month or so, and it seems you've re-written a fair amount of what the Parallax coders did. Additionally, it looks like you're slowly re-writing ALL of the Parallax code. Is it possible that at some point in the future, you will have unwittingly re-coded the entire game?

Not only have I rewritten a lot of their code, I have also added about 100.000 lines of new code.
See this little statistic

Maybe the goal for d2x-xl 2.0.0.0 ?
Beat you to it

Ah yes, my first year outside of PD.com, quite a learning experience.

Sorry, but I am not going to sift through that code. I really have better things to do.
