Shaders?

Postby -JoFFa- » Sun Nov 25, 2007 5:44 am

Hi again...All those discussions concerning bumpmaps and shadereffects brought some new questions.

1. Are you going to make possible HL2 effects in d2x-xl?

2. If yes - i guess there will be some change in concept of creating the levels - as that will require overlapping mappings - not tied up together -as we see now between texture 1 and 2. Are you going to divide them?

3. I also red about porting d2x-xl to the Quake engine - if so - does that mean that the levels created originally - will not be compatible?

4. Does porting means that DLE-XP - no longer be a suiteable with its powers to create sophisticated levels for the Quake4 like engine? and therefore:

5. are you going to redo DLE-XP - if you will port it all? and if so:

6. I guess it all will take a lot of time.

Uhm, it's just my own two cents, but I'm pretty sure Diedel hasn't said he plans to do an engine transplant like that. He has said he'd like to, although from memory he'd rather get a whole new Descent game if going down that track. It's because of #6.

1. Not really, Diedel is just trying to improve the engine with some new effects.
2. If I know, there are no changes planned, maybe some improvements, but the original levels should alway be playable.
3. It was just an idea, but it's hard to realise with only one coder.
4. If we would port d2x-xl to quake engine, we would use radiant for making levels. Wihich is more comfortable than dle-xp
5. If I know, NO
6 You ohh yes ;)

Environment mapping is supported since Q3-engine.
