CTF TWIMTBP

Postby karx11erx » Thu Jan 19, 2012 10:05 am

Everybody who has ever tried a CTF game with standard Descent 2 will probably have experienced quite a disappointment: Descent lacks the features to provide CTF mechanisms the way people are used to, like e.g. in Unreal Tournament.

There is a cure for this, and its name is D2X-XL. D2X-XL offers a full-blown CTF mode (dubbed "CTF+") with the following features:
  • Flags will always spawn in their home base after scoring
  • A team can only score when their flag is in their home base (i.e. flag goal)
  • A team can return their flag to its home base by touching it
  • DLE-XP and D2X-XL offer team-only spawn points: Players of a team will always spawn at one of these spawn points

I hope this sounds like a good reason to play your next multiplayer game using D2X-XL. You can find a CTF+ map here. As a cherry on top of the cream this map supports up to 16 players.

I don't usually plug my own stuff, but in case you want a second CTF+ level - http://enspiar.com/dmdb/viewMission.php?id=274
Probably best suited for 4-8 players though - it's not an epic-scale CTF level.

The only reason I didn't mention it was that I couldn't remember whether it supports CTF+. I have a similar post on PD.net, and I have just added a link to your map there. :)

Got plans brewing for a CTF+ level hereabouts... Hopefully it turns out well!

I have got to try CTF.

I have a great opportunity for multiplayer (and CTF) at my location in Costa Rica. I am friends with my ISP (Internet Service Provider). Actually I am his system administrator. His (our) Internet service uses a wireless WAN (Wide Area Network) that puts all his customers in what is essentially a big LAN at about 35 Mbit/sec. It doesn't consume Internet bandwidth, and is super fast - perfect for D2X-XL.
