What does it take to compile a Mac version of D2X-XL?

Postby Sykes » Tue Mar 13, 2012 7:19 am

Title says most of it. I have access to powerful Macs at the local college that my dad works at, and I help in the CS labs often, so not only do I have access to the Macs there, but my dad also has one that he uses for personal use that I could borrow.

What software is needed to compile D2X-XL on a Mac? I have the resources to do it, and would be willing to try.

Thanks. Also, this requires an Intel-based Mac, correct? We have an old mac (OS X 10.5) that uses the old architecture. I doubt it can be, but if that could be used to compile it, it would make things much easier.

You might be able to cross-compile, but not recommended if you want to test it ... or avoid even more trouble getting it to work for that matter.

I was hoping I could use the PPC Mac to at least set it up ant figure out how to work the software, and compile it, so that when I have access to my dad's Mac Book I can be prepared to set it up and compile it on there. Macs are mostly foreign to me though. Last Mac I used was OS 7.

Unfortunately xcode4 has dropped all support for ppc, and would take some major finagling, and tweaks, to get it as part of the xcode project again. Which is just as well, there were some compiling errors with PPC anyway. Bschwand supposedly fixed them but never shared his results. PPC has gone the way of the dinosaur along with the 'ol 86k, and to be honest. I don't miss it. Except for PPC era specific software. For that I have sheepshaver ;)

xcode comes with its own compilers so there isn't anything extra you must download.

OSX is quite a bit different from OS7 though, good luck!
