Descent II — Die Hard! (getting past level 1)

Postby cursor » Tue Jan 21, 2014 5:31 pm

I've played level one a so many times I can't count. Throughout the level there is a locked door in the tunnel leading from the second level of the blue room tower. Clearly it allows access to the red key (at the top of the yellow room). There must be a switch that I'm missing somewhere. Without supplying an actual answer, might someone offer a hint of what I might look for? I'd like to move on to the remaining (18?) levels. Thanks folks. =)

Hi Cursor!
Well, TBH, for some reason I didn't noticed this post (it seems is a bit old!) and I also haven't played Die Hard ever. :P

I will download the mission and check the first level with DLE and see if there's some switch or something. :)

Well I don't think I ever figured it out either.
Maybe the dearth of replies is cuz no one did.

You could load the level in DLE, select the segment side with the door and check which triggers point to it.

Thanks for that. I don't have any experience with DLE, but I'll look into it.

I'll be curious to hear what you discover, Pumo.

LOL!
I recall finding a message somewhere on the internet (long time back) from the author (Peter Sadowski, I believe). He suggested that the key to getting past the first level was to "pay attention to the map." I have ... but can't fiture it out.

Here:
It seems that first you must enter the light gray with brown room full of mini-bosses. After you pass through that door, a Omega bot will be released and will start roaming the mine. It has the Yellow key inside it, so you must destroy it.

Then, inside the Yellow door, you'll find the Red key behind a secret door (check the attached image to see where).
The Red door is also a secret one. :strange:

Hope this helps! (it seems this mission requires lots of guesswork to make it through  ).

I've done most of that, Pumo. I've been through the yellow door, can access the 'full map', but can't seem to gain access to the red key (which I can see through the gray door that can't be blown out ... "You cannot open this door"). Is there a switch that allows me to blow the door protecting the red key?

Additionally, on the middle level—after coming through the blue door—there is a hallway that leads to a door that I can't seem to open (again, "You cannot open this door"). Looking at the full map view, I can see that it's a very short, and straight hallway. I'm thinking that there might be a switch at the end of that short hallway (that might give me access to the red key). Have you been able to get in there?

Thanks for your help. =)

The door that you can see the red key through is its own trigger - think about it.

With your second door, if it is also one you can see through, check the automap carefully in the area close to it. :yikes:

I'll check back in a few days to see if you need more help.

If anyone is still stuck on trying to get to the red key, I just fired a Phoenix through the holes in the door (watch out for backfire!) and let it open the door from the other side.

While facing the hostage door that won't open, go through the door behind you and continue backing away while pushing downwards. You'll feel a shallow "pit" where your ship seems to go down a little. Then shoot that pit to activate the hidden switch.
