I'd say from the looks of the concept art for that page that there is a D4 in the works!

Plus sign up at the forums guys! This is all looking promising!

As far as I'd go is to say that there may possibly be a Descent game in the works starting sometime in the next few years. I doubt anyone's working on it yet.

X2 @ Sirius.

Descent never was a cash chow for Interplay, so I reckon they will concentrate on more lucrative titles first.

Oh I agree, but the fact there is a concept image is something to suggest someone is thinking of Descent. ;)

That's all I meant about "in the works".

But, ooooooh, if they do a good job with D4, good MUSIC, good gameplay, etc.

Music makes a game. Mostly.

Wow, the site does lok promising. I think we are going to have to wait for Interplay to make some more money be releasing a few fallout titles before they work on a descent title! Descent doesnt really seem to be high on their priorities list....

Music can really make or break a game. The "fun-ness" and feel of levels usually depends heavily on the music.

To an extent. Don't get me wrong, the music is a huge part of the atmosphere of a level (which is one of the parts I consider the most important), but it doesn't make up for bad gameplay. It simply turns an average experience into a good one. :)

Whaaaaaaaat?

A game is not about the music. It is about the challenge it poses within it's "story", set of rules and environments. I always turn music off in games because it makes them feel less "real" for me.

How in all the world can one make a gaming experience depend on music?

Oh yeah, there's always an orchestra sitting in the background of a battlefield, or a rock band somewhere in a hidden cave in a Descent mine ...

You know, if that was true it actually be pretty cool. I can think of a few tunes I'd love to be rockin' out to while in a battle.

Still ... like you said, nearly always the music is actually detracting. Turning off the music allows the player to pay full attention to the other sounds around him/her in the level, allowing the player's senses to be finely tuned and responsive. In SP mode having no music allows the player to be deeply immersed in the surroundings and very responsive. In MP mode having no music allows the player to easily hard the approach of any opponent and instantly hear the direction the sounds come from.
Life is short and only happens once. So make it a good one.

Some of the levels I've built feel depressing with certain music (or none at all), but feel amazingly cool with other music. In my opinion, if you turn the music off, you're not getting the full experience the game was meant to have. I can understand why the music would be turned off for MP, but I find SP in any game is incredibly boring without music. (The first boss stage in Sonic Heroes feels incredibly cool, but only because of the music and the way it fits the level.)

Music isn't meant to make a game unrealistic; it's supposed to set the mood of a level.
