My apologies. I apparently misread the install page and took the contents of the "MS Windows" section a bit too literally. I'll be sure to be more observant.

I went back and placed the files exactly according to http://www.descent2.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11... It's possible that I might have missed something because it will not start unless I either move descent2.cfg back to the main game directory or actually specify it explicitly with -ini. Shooting open the first door causes a GPF so I'm guessing I have deeper problems. I guess I can always build the latest version in svn in debug mode and see what it's actually doing.

What is ambiguous in the Windows D2X-XL installation instructions?

The bugs probably won't occur in the debug version, but if they do I'd be more than happy to know what causes them, because I cannot reproduce them.

i may be wrong but i think i have an answer for what is so ambiguous in the installation instructions :
i discovered lately the sidemenu guide : and the forum post in not really the same than the installation guide from the sidemenu.

for example

missions: Put all mission data here (*.hog, *.msn, *.mn2)
vs
all ".hog", ".msn", ".ham" , ".pig", "Sxx" files to "data" folder

another thing. when you say all, do you mean all of the main excluding the subforders, or including ?
i stop here, but thats not the only think that coufounded me

i may have misread the writing, if so, i beg you to forgive me, but anyway it is not that simple, i tried for maybe 5 hours so it isnt bad will

You are comparing two different things.

The installation-Guide on mypage is written by diedel, who is the official author of d2x-xl.
This guide is frequently updated, and written from developer view.

My tutorial is only an inofficial addition to diedel's guide, based on user's best practice experience.
So they are written from two different points od view.

So you are comparing things, which are not really comparable.

The installation guide on my site has a list of all required/possible subfolders and what should go in there. Just scroll down.
