working awesome except...

Postby darkflamewolf » Thu Aug 30, 2012 11:44 am

Two days ago, my old computer went kaput. So I had to buy a new laptop with a Intel i7 Dual Core CPU with each running 2.30 Ghz, 8 gig RAM, 64 bit OS, with Intel HD Graphics 4000 (whatever card that is!), and standard Intel onboard laptop sound card. Well D2x-XL works SWIMMINGLY with my laptop esp. with laptop compatible mode turned on. However, there is one problem...no sound...no music. I checked all sounds and settings and made sure I didn't accidently turn it off. I even made sure to blast all sliders to the right just in case it ended p being too 'quiet.' But nothing. I'm playing beautiful rendered levels in absolute silence. Any help would be appreciated.

Intel crap graphics? Core i7 "dual" core?

Why didn't you get a Core i5 system with useable graphics?

There is something called money and not having enough of it. I went with what I could afford. I'm so sorry I'm not rich. I would still like some help with my audio issue however. The graphics seem to be quite fine. So that isn't my problem.

Did you try switching the sdl_mixer option in your d2x.ini? I'm just guessing, but that may be worth a try.

Well in the d2x.ini, I see these options just as I'm pasting them here:

Sound:

;-nosound Disables sound output
;-nomusic Disables music output
;-sound11k Use 11KHz sounds
;-nosdlmixer Disable Sound output via SDL_mixer

That's strange. Is that a d2x.ini you carried over from an older installation of D2X-XL? If so, this might be a good time for a fresh start. Either by deleting d2x.ini which will create a new one on next start or by completeley reinstalling everything from scratch.

I can't even find a reference to 'sound11k' and 'nosdlmixer' in the current source code, which I incidentally have right before my eyes. The d2x-default.ini of the current version (1.6.14) has the following sound related settings instead:

;set the following value to 1 to enable sound rendering via SDL_mixer (enables midi playback on non-Windows OS-s)
-sdl_mixer 1
;use 22 khz (1) or 44 khz (2), 16 bit hires sounds (installation and use of these sounds is mandatory for flawless audio operation of D2X-XL)
-hires_sound 2
;tell the program to compensate for problems with midi sound on Windows 7
-midifix 1

Just in case: the correct d2x.ini is located in the config subfolder.

okay, found the correct config file, changed SDL-Mixer to 0, since it was on 1 initially.I also changed hirez sounds to 1 as well, but still no music or sounds...

What audio driver are you running on? Default windows compatible drivers or installed new ones from vendor?

well from what I can tell, it IS a intel, onboard sound driver. Came factory installed into the laptop.

Have you tried updating (or reinstalling it if there are no updates) the driver?

Yes and no cigar.
