Sound Issues

Postby Weyrman » Sun Jun 08, 2014 11:10 am

1.17.32 Sound Issue:

Have deleted the sound folders and re-downloaded and unpacked the hi-res sound files.

I have re-installed 1.17.32 but still have the sound playing too fast issue. It doesn't clip like when the hi-res sounds can't be found, it just sounds sped up.

of course if when I install 1.17.30 it builds d2 folder (I don't have .31).

So just to be sure I have full sound library in d2, sounds and sounds2.

.30 plays sounds correctly, .32 plays sounds sped up.

hires sounds:

./sounds/d2/22khz <- D2 22 khz sounds
./sounds/d2/44khz <- D2 44 khz sounds (these are the standard hires sounds)
./sounds/d1 <- D1 hires sounds

.33 builds a sounds2 folder with a d2x-xl folder with wav files and afbr_1.wav

Is this correct or should they be in the sounds folder?

This is what I now have

.sounds\
--d1\
--d2\
----22khz\ afbr_1.wav 201kb 2 secs *1
----44khz\ afbr_1.wav 402kb 2 secs *2
--d2x-xl\
.sounds2\
--d2x-xl\
--afbr_1.wav 1.17mb 6 secs *3

So where should the d2x-xl folder be?

* 1&2 are obviously the same sound sampled at different bitrates but what is 3 for?

It also still builds the following empty folders
.d2\
--22khz\
--44khz\
--d2x-xl\

d2x-xl.exe has no sound
d2x-xl-omp.exe has sound (at the rcorrect speed)
d2x-xl-x64.exe has sound (at the rcorrect speed)

omp and x64 versions drop to 1-2fps while just sitting at the start point doing nothing (std d2 level1)

also requires d2x-default.ini in .\cache\config but doesn't put a copy there by default

Albie,

do you read any of the stuff I am writing about this? If you download the hires sound package from my website and extract it to your main D2X-XL folder, you should be fine (as far as sound is concerned).

The sounds2 folder is obsolete. Please delete it.

I am not having any fps problems. Maybe that's caused by your gfx drivers?

I VERY CAREFULLY read all that you write. Just letting you know what happens.

So, deleted d2, sounds and sounds2 folders from main. Commenting as I do it.

Unpack hires-sounds.7z using 7zip 9.2 - sounds folder created and populated

folders auto created:

.\sounds\d1 (113 files)
.\sounds\d1\d2*
.\sounds\d2\22khz (184 files)
.\sounds\d2\44khz (191 files)
.\sounds\d2\44khz\44khz*
.\sounds\d2\44khz\d2x-xl*
.\sounds\d2x-xl (47 files)
.\sounds\d2x-xl\22khz*

* denotes empty folder

Unpack 1.17.33

folders auto created:

.\sounds2\d2x-xl\ 47.wav files
.\sounds2\afbr_1.wav

run d2x-xl.exe:

folders auto created:

.\d2\22khz*
.\d2\44khz*
.\d2\d2x-xl*

I try very hard to test all possible options that are within my capability before posting problems so that I'm not posting stupid issues.

As for the graphics driver I'm running AMD 14.4 which is the latest.

d2x-xl.exe has no sound
d2x-xl-omp.exe has correct sound
d2x-xl-x64.exe has correct sound

.35

Found that I had a corruption somewhere which was preventing any sound in the std d2x-xl version.

I now have sound in all versions except for the ship sound, gatling sound and gatling spinup sound.

Otherwise all seems to be good :D
