Please read the stickies before posting questions.

You'll find that some if not all of your question are answered already.

There is a thread called "Tutorial: Working D2X-XL - installation" that can help you.

Go read the D2X-XL installation instructions. They outline which folders to create and where to place the data D2X-XL needs and shouldn't be hard to follow.

I don't understand why it is so hard to follow pictures?
If you looked at my guide, all you'd have to do is click on the links of the folder setup as to what goes where.

Aus-RED-5 wrote:To add to this installation Guide - some pics to illustrate the Folders & Files setup.

A fresh install of Descent2 and D2X-XL with models + textures.

Descent2 <--- Main directory
config
data
demos
missions
models
movies
profiles
savegames
screenshots
temp
textures

PLEASE NOTE:
You do not have to install Descent2 in the "C:" drive or the "GAMES" folder.
This fresh install was installed using the Descent 1 & 2: The Definitive Collection CDs for Windows OS.
It includes the Vertigo Series + more. So some files may not match your setup.
;)

Please DO NOT post questions regarding the installation guide in this thread.
Please make a new thread for questions about the guide.

Thank you. :)

Please start to use proper punctuation. Your posts are almost uncomprehendable. If you cannot even be bothered to make your posts easily readable, don't bother us to help you.

No. The only difference is you won't be able to play Vertigo missions or SP/MP Levels that require the Vertigo add-on.
But D2X-XL does not require the Vertigo install.

It doesn't matter where because D1 or D2 doesn't install registry files.

So feel free to install under C:/GAMES/Descenty2

rlk123go, you missed the point.

The remark says that you don't HAVE to use the default folders, not that you can't.

If you are happy for the program to install to the default folders than do it, but be aware that you now have the option of putting it in any folder or drive that you wish. I for example, have all my games in E:\Games.

Set up descent where you want it

Unpack the rar file into that folder making sure to use the subfolder option so that all the required folders for d2x-xl are created and the right d2x-xl files dropped in them

Follow the pictures linked to above and move the files from the main folder into the ones they are supposed to be in. If you need to, create any folders not already there. Make sure you spell the folder names correctly!

Be aware that the files MUST be in their right folders for the program to run properly

hope this helps :D

Step by step

Postby Frustikus » Wed Apr 09, 2008 7:44 am

1. Visit http://www.descent2.de
2. In the SIDEMENU choose DOWNLOADS
3. Scroll down to the hires-sound package and download it.
4. Extract the file into your descent directory. Consider that you use the pathinformation. After that you will have two extra folders in your main directory (sounds1 and sounds2).

5. Open your d2x.ini.
6. Edit the line -sound22k to -sound44k.
7. Enable the SDL_Mixer: -sdl_mixer 1
8. enable the hires-sound: -hires_sound 2.
9. Close your d2x.ini and of course save your changes.

10. Enjoy the better sound.

Within the sidemenu at the main website (descent2.de) you can find "Switches". Take a look at it.
