Odd Crashes
Hi all,
I love D2X-XL and am grateful for all of the work being put into it, but I wish it were more stable.
The problem I am having is that whenever I finish a level, the game freezes for a few minutes and then closes. Any help would be appreciated. (it gets to the end of mission scores screen and freezes there)

Hi & welcome Yoshimitsu!
Your problem may be related to your pilot profile. Check if this problem happens also when using the 'Default' pilot profile (included on the D2X-XL RAR).
You could also try to create a new pilot from scratch.
If you're still experiencing problems, remember to post a support ticket on sourceforge.net.
You can access the D2X-XL sourceforge main site from the 'karx11erx' user signature (he's the developer of D2X-XL) or from the main D2X-XL seciton on the descent2.de site.

Thanks for the speedy input Pumo.
The profile I'm using is from scratch and is brand new. I'll try the default one anyway.
I'll also jump over to Sourceforge since I haven't looked at it yet.

Pumo is correct, a new pilot profile/ the default one is the best way to go. For some reason (i dunno why) the new player profiles (and the default one) degrade over time, losing size. Dunno why, just happens. Always keep a back-up copy of the profiles somewhere
I keep a Default in some folder on my desktop... hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions guys. unfortunately they didn't work. It doesn't matter what profile I use, brand new, or default. It still crashes at the scores screen. I have even reinstalled everything several times, including the base game.
I have posted a report on sourceforge (I'm md1032 over there and on Interplay.com), but any other ideas from here would be appreciated.

Sounds like a good plan but I don't know how to turn logging on. I've searched the D2X-XL website and it is nowhere to be found. I spotted the -printlog command in d2x.ini but I can't figure out how to turn it on, or where it would print a log to.

turn on the -printlog command by removing the semicolon from the front of the line.
It should create a file called d2x.log in the games root directory when d2x-xl is started.

Just to clarify what Weyrman said.
Open the d2x.ini file. Look for the -printlog switch.
If it has a semicolon in front of it (i.e. - ;-printlog). Then remove the semicolon (-printlog) and save the file.
If you don't see this switch? Then add it to the d2x.ini file and save it.
When you run D2X-XL again. It will produce a d2x.log file in the d2/d2x-xl main directory.

Thanks for the input everyone. unfortunately I am still having the trouble, but now i have something concrete. in the d2x.log file, the last line is always "Memory access violation" I don't know what this might mean, but I put the file on sourceforge along with my d2x.ini file in the support requests section. (I'm md1032 on sourceforge).
one more detail which might not mean anything. I finally got custom music to work, just a few minutes ago. now when the game crashes and the Windows XP error report window comes up, the music keeps playing until I close the Windows message.

My drivers are up to date.
on sourceforge they suggested that I switch to the ASE format hires models. I still have the OOF ones since I didn't realize that there had been a change. I'll report back when I've the new models a test run.
