I disagree. I say it looks like D4.

sorry, but that's not what i imagined d4 too look like. even d3's maps have far more polygonal count. :P

i was more thinking of the lines of.......http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/planetunreal ... /deck3.jpg
for adequate detail if there was a d4.

blarget, when someone like you gives advice to someone like Ben it looks somewhat brazen.

Hahaha... I'd love to go into as much detail as you see in UT3, but these are cubes. I have to keep a balance between looking pretty and actually finishing the bastard.

i wasnt saying that at all. the post with the ut3 pic was just stating that no level in d2 will look like what we expect in a d4. which is modern graphics.

Put together a forcefield texture in Photoshop, just trying to figure out how to load animations now.

You need to put all frames of a hires TGA animation in one image: frame 0 on top, below it frame 1, etc.

Actually I would have expected D4 to look much more like Red Faction.

Considering that Red Faction was actually going to be D4.

That said, Ben K's mission isnt quite Red Faction but its pretty close.

Maya's been giving me a facepalm session trying to make it work properly. I'll continue when I get back from work.

At any rate, I'm about to start making some statics, and figure out how to organise the stages of development. I realise that the final gameplay is going to come quite late, so for the meanwhile we'll just be working with standard Descent 2 bots until the levels are closer to done.

Was wondering about this.

Did I mention the terrain in the last pic looks gorgeous? The rest looks amazing too, but... that looks (far, far) better than D3's terrain engine.

It is far better than D3's terrain engine, but it's not what you're hoping for. That's a 3D render and is part of the level's sky box. The level is completely underground.

Maya is running now. It's 11:30 pm and I have work in the morning so I'll start tomorrow evening instead.
