Why not use custom textures? Aren't there enough standard textured levels?

This is just a standard D2 level. Once I decided to make an XL version, I'll add custom textures. :)

I understand. There's so few standard D2 levels. We really need some more.

Hmm... I like building standard D2 sometimes, because working within limits breeds creativity. (In my case the limit is more max cubes than textures though... my XL levels tend to go totally overboard with size and complexity). This doesn't mean I try to take complex structures out of my standard D2 levels though. :P

Is that a sarcasm?

Is that a serious question?

If you want standard Descent 2 levels, Enemy Within will fit the bill. Despite Diedel and others prompting me to convert it to D2X-XL only, I wanted it to be standard for a reason already stated: limits breeds creativity. But now, I'm converting over and doing D2X-XL levels.

Sorry DFW, but there is nothing creative in TEW that hasn't been there in tons of Descent levels before it. It's a well done level set, but that's it.

Your motto of "limits breed creativity" may apply in certain environments, but not here.

There aren't so many extras in D2X-XL that it would cripple your creativity because all you'd have to do is plug pre-made stuff together. Au contraire: The extras D2X-XL offers allow to stray from the same old beaten paths Descent level designers have been taking for almost 1 1/2 decades.

If you want to be creative regarding Descent 1+2 level design, use D2X-XL and stop making one vanilla mission set after the other.

I believe your real motive is that you wanted a bigger audience.

TEW offered nothing that hadn't been done before, but we did a lot of stuff better than anyone had done before.

The one thing I haven't seen anyone repeat from regular D2 yet is cinematic sequences. I can understand why that may be.

Ben,

I wasn't saying anything about the quality of TEW - it's outstanding - only about the creativity (or innovation), where it exceeds the mere construction of elaborate levels and introduces thrilling gameplay twists and ideas.

Well, I am making a d2X-xl level, its called Azaran Zodiark. I thought I had made it pretty clear it would be d2x-xl only.
