And.....you obviously missed my sense of humor in my last post... we seem to be doing more of :argue: and not enough
But regardless, after my latest release, I think I'm calling it quits. My inspiration streak has run out and I'm done.

Yeah, I have to say I totally missed it.

Btw, how about uploading Chaos Theory XL to the DMDB? It's still your mission after all.

Karx is a psychoanalyst too! :P
But...
Aren't you forgetting Bahagad and Lost Levels?
Lost levels is still probably the longest mission ever made for Descent (because all the levels are so huge and hard). Even though TEW and Vignettes have more mines.
We live in a universe... It's distracting

What does that have to do with psycho analysis.

I personally like what you did with SPC and will try to do expand it, by adding my own details (I also had that idea about the windows and center light, seems like I need to try harder :|)

As for the alignment, I believe you refer to the disks and the inter-spaces. I intentionally left them the way they are, but that's only fit for the d2 texture they had. If the tech texture is to be used yeah, re-alignment is needed. But yeah do point out my mistakes on the map K, I would like to know what I missed. And uploading the modified level would be cool also, thanks!

@Alterfox: +1 about LOSTLVL and TEW

Small Pardon Collider XL

There is still a cylindrical space inside the central pillar, and I have left the lightning emitters in there, too; they are just set to disabled (change that in DLE-XP). I found them to emit way to much light, so I turned them off.

I see a trick I had not thought of before... With the main cylinder; one that does not require to fuse vertices... WoW, so simple...
Thanx again for the time you take with my level. LPC is becoming better and better. I am building it from scratch to facilitate all these good ideas and more. I'll keep it slow and thorough to keep learning. Make this good.

Last set of XL screenshots with the D3 + original hi-res D2 forcefield mix - that is really quite spectacular. I haven't seen many levels that were able to look that good.

Thanks Sirius!

I am making LPC geometry so that it accommodates the D3 textures I acquired from karx and have it all lined up, since I am going into the trouble of forming my cubes with precision anyway. You can already see the parts of SPC that contain the D2 blue-strip to fit perfectly, and that was my only striving for the D2 version of the level (900 cubes). (that and the precise circles) Now I have way more to calculate, and more parameters to adjust, which add some freedom to the design.

On the final version, I will include in the hog, the empty level (only spawn points), the 1/8th of it (last layer of mirror-repetition), and just a single plate (first layer of mirror-repetition), to allow for easy modification by others. The 1/8th will be much less monotonous to just one collider entry this time. The disks will vary.

Re: The Large Pardon Collider (teaser)

The Collider as it should be: XL size! You will almost not feel the curvature... _
Image

The sample corridor's cross section (marked side) is 15.0x42.6, for reference. The end result will look much like that. Plus Diedel's idea (enhanced) for the centre (we have so much more room now).
NOTE: SPC already bends casual systems to a noticeable frame-drop, so expect this one to give D2X-XL real smoke instead of rendered one.
:bounce:

EDIT: A side-project called ATLAS(something) (after the famous detector assembly at CERN) is also underway, sacrificing smoothness for component details like beams for example. It's that LPC maintains the pattern and look of SPC transferred to XL, adding smoothness as well as size as seen in the aforementioned screenshot. D3 textures will be used for both.

I tried to zoom into the image like I do with DLE-XP!

:lolol:

I am looking forward to the finished product. :bounce:

The level it-self looks like crap now, that's why I posted the wire-frame as teaser only. I have unlocked a method for achieving the same goal, that saves me tons of time, and achieves full-bown accuracy in side sizes, perfectly fitting their textures. Previously, the sizing was only approximate in favor of having all cubes the same size/shape. Now we have both! As a hint, know that I beat your lowest angle increment of 2.8125° (seen as 1.5625° in DLE), to 1.40625°. (and more, but at some point the cubes are not enough)

EDIT: hmmm, reached another cube bump... It's either diedel's idea simplified or reduced radius of the level (half the cubes). I'm inclined towards the latter, 'cause that will free up cubes for more things.
