UVW mapping has nothing to do with model/submodel definition.
UVW mapping is a question of the right technique. I see no problems to UVW map this model.

Other thing is, that this one is probably only a draft model ;)

Hi,

you might complain about the polycount. The model shown in the picture has 1700 faces. I reduced them to 1437 and it should be possible to reduce them to 1100 or less.
This model was meant as a concept, just to show a mixture between the original Orbit and a Pyro. I wanted to keep Pumos idea of a hovercraft engine... which would be placed between the fins at the tail.
It is up to Pumo to decide, whether the development of this ship will be continued. It was just an offer to him. If he has no need for a new more detailed ship, I will stop.
Pumo developes a brilliant mod and spent much time on it. We all will have fun while playing it. I want to give something back to Pumo ;-).

The ship is just a concept and open for changes. So here it is an example without the hovercraft engine (1045 faces):

@Frustikus:
Well, the ship concept looks nice.
However, I do like a lot my round-shaped original model as it was a hard work I was involved with and I'm fond to it (also, my sister helped me to make it). So it has some sentimental value, and I wouldn't replace it. :(

BUT, I'm not sayin' I would waste your model.
You see, your model looks like a 'harder' version of the orbit,
So, It would be nice to have in PM as heavy ship (as I only have a single ship, the balanced standard pyro-style that is the Orbit) so it certainly has a place on PM. ;)

--
@Diedel:
In fact I would like to ask to Diedel if it is possible to change the ship type according to the mission development (and idea Alter-fox gave me).
I mean, for specific missions (maybe with a flag on the .mn2 file, I don't know) prevent control of the ship changes from the user's side and change the ship type according to designer's need (specifying also its model, as long as it is located on the missions mods folder).
e.g. from level 1 to 3 use the light ship, from levels 4 to 6 the heavy, level 7 standard, level 8 heavy again, etc.

That would be nice and would fit the story on Pumo Mines (as there are 3 Material Defenders throughout the story).

So, tell me both of you (Frusti and Diedel) what you think.

I don't know that there's support for it right now, but it shouldn't be a big issue unless there's some messy things going on in the .ham organisation.

Cool ! :shock:

Just an idea for level builders: Things like this could be a nice level part for a d2x-xl mission. The hangar entrance as an mission exit in an outdoor area, e.g..

Hi,

here is another example of a possible heavy fighter for Pumo Mines... it is a very early draft.

Image

Pumo and me are talking about this one too.
I am awaiting Pumos requests for changes... while waiting I am back on HH (other model by me).

Hi,

while waiting for Pumos ideas and sketches about the weapons layout, I made a small test:

Yeah, I like it ;-).

Not bad. In fact, it's very nice. :)

However, I got another idea about the position of one of the set of cannons.
Also I was thinking about another kind of thruster: a single and big semi-squared thruster on the back to follow Orbit XC's design style, instead of the double one.

I've made some sketches over a print of your model and will send them to you tomorrow.

PS. Sorry for not sending the sketches before. I Haven't got the time yet :oops:
