The central hub idea reminds me of Crash Bandicoot. :)

OK, as I always said, Pumo Mines project is far from dead, and once more I've got some stuff to show. :)

First of all, after a second thought (and some observations Alter-Fox made in the past), and although the central hub idea was very original, as for now I will cancel it.
I might think about adding it again on a future, I don't know for sure, but due to some story dynamics, as I see it now, the hub may be more of a nuissance than an useful thing.
Sorry. :P

---

And now, I've been working on several textures (mainly selecting, converting and re-touching existent D3 textures), but i've also made some new ones for subsequent PM levels, and this shows a bit of the textures you will see specially on levels 6, 8 & 9, and some new lamps, etc.

Image

The drawing on the upper left, depicts a PMC worker as you'll see him on a advertising banner on Level 6. :)
Of course, it will be fully colored and shaded, but as for now it is bare line work.
Also, he's surrounded by Level 6 textures, and on the right half of the image you can see some textures for Levels 8 & 9.

Also, I'm making some structure stuff for Level 8 & 9 entrances. Check them out:

And finally, I've composed a couple of songs (well, 3 songs in fact) for the secret levels,
that although they lack effects, EQ, filters, automation & mastering, they are mostly done. :)

Here's a link to a sample OGG file if you want to check some excerpts of the songs:

Very good news! Your levels are some of the best stuff ever made for Descent 2.

Your skills as level builder and texture artists are beyond doubt.

The only thing you lack is a bigger monitor. ;)

The first level 8 screenshot looks like a more "modern" version of the path to the reactor room in D2 level 11.
EDIT: Lets see if I can guess the secret level themes from the music. I already know the first one is alien themed so that one doesn't count. For the second one I'd say... ice, and the third one is probably fire.

Hi,

still working on the beast.
I started from scratch, currently I am testing the best weapons positions. I am also trying to integrate fusion and Gauss into the ship.
It is much easier to work with the edgy vessel (upper left corner in the picture) than with the smoothed one I built.

The edgy design might turn out better, suffice the details are right. Sometimes curves can ease the design aesthetically. So, good thing you started from scratch. :P

OK, so finally after some months of hiatus, I got the time to work on Pumo Mines again, and now that I got a new faster and newer computer that makes my actual job easier, I can also invest a bit more of time on Pumo Mines! :D

So, I've been working all this week very hard on Level 4 and finally, I finished all the level structure, design, lighting, texturing, a bit of scripting, etc. :coding:

Now the only thing left to do is to add some objects (robots, powerups and effects) and all the rest of scripting needed for the level plot.

So, here are the new screenshots that show some of the new stuff of Level 4 (although there are a couple of surprises and spoilers here and there I won't show for now, of course ;) ).

Be sure to click on the thumbnails to see the image at full-size.

Image Image Image Image Image

The last image shows a bit of one of the two terrain sections of the level.

And finally, a full wire-frame overview of the entire level:

Image

As you'll see (taking the very small yellow dot at the right as reference) the levels is pretty big, and I would dare to think it may be the largest Descent 2 level ever made, after Anthology. :)

Hope you all will like the new stuff. I will keep working more on Pumo Mines now that I got time on next week, and hopefully on next year also. :thumb:

Oh, and before I forget:

I will respond (very latery, after several months of delay :P) to this according to how I've got things planned as by now.

Yeah, you already know the first one is Alien2, but now regarding the other two, the second one is for a Space Station themed level, and the third for a Rock and Ice themed level, with some touch of D1 Levels 15,16 & 17 style, and full of steam and smoke emitters as the level gimmick.

For the automap, I'm just going to say it's a very good thing Descent doesn't constrain building to a finite grid like most game engines...

This is excitingness. Also I finally get to see what the "robot screen" for Pumo Mines looks like. In D1 it was the spider and in D2 it was the Red Fatty Boss. I had been wondering for a while what it would be for PM.
Anyway I'm leaving for Texas vacation now. Maybe I'll see more if I go on a daytrip to Mexico...

Good to know you liked the stuff. :)

Yeah, you could see a bit more if you come to Mexico indeed, although I'm living near to the south side in a state called Puebla, so it's actually very far away from the USA frontier. :P

Oh, and yeap, it was about time to show the robot screen for PM.
When making it I could not decide which one of the robots to use, but I think the Brutus Guard (the PM equivalent of a Red Hulk/Lou Guard more or less) was the best selection, as it has some D1 touch to it that brings a small touch of nostalgia mixed with the more modern D3 style of PM. :)

Well, it's not for D3, it's for D2X-XL only, but indeed a full-fledged D2X-XL level looks a lot like D3 so it may cause some confussion. :P

No confusion on my part, I know that this is for D2X-XL, but you in your project had announced a version for D3 too, you have abandoned this?

Re: Pumo Mines Thread

Oh, you're talking about the sequel, Muchikuche.

Well, the original idea was to make Muchikuche for D3, but as I'm much more fluent on making D2 levels (using Devil and DLE, etc) and D2X-XL offers some effects even D3 doesn't have and higher-resolution texture support than D3, I ended moving the project also to D2X-XL. ;)

So all the Pumo Mines saga will be designed for D2X-XL at the end (and a lite version for Rebirth maybe in the future). :)

I may show you a bit of what I've done already on the Muchikuche project for XL (some textures, weapons and effects), but I consider that it could be considered a spoiler, as it uses some characteristics you've never seen before on an XL level, or in any other case, you may end asking me to add those features to my main Pumo Mines mission, and take for sure I won't do that as the sequel needs some new stuff to make it superior to the precessor. :P

But if you really, really want to see how it's goin', well I may show you something,
but take the disclaimer in account:

You won't see any of those new effects implemented on Kartsal Motivation, as it would require a complete re-haul of several parts of level design and I'm already up to Level 4, and won't like to go back again.
Also, Kartsal Motivation project, in my mind, is designed to look like a mix of original D1/2 and D3, while Muchikuche is a bit like a D4 for me. :O

And won't change that due to personal reasons, hehe.
