Re: Pumo Mines Thread
maybe it is already be possible to lay out a playable beta version with at least five levels?
Re: Pumo Mines Thread
Well, it's possible, but there's a small issue with that:
The levels, as they are now are just empty structures, with not all textures made in hi-res yet, and with no items and robots, except for the first half of level 4.
Also, there's still no scripting done, and as for now I would really like to focus more on finally finishing the levels' structures ASAP without investing time on Item placing/scripting.
I could release the levels as they are now (low-res texturing, no items, no script, etc) if ppl wants to, but I would prefer to let the people on the forum decide if they really want to see such unfinished stuff, even if it's just for the sake of flying throughout the empty mines.
Of course, if that's the case, maybe I would need to make the Pumo Mines downloads modular, so the user won't have to download a big file with all the stuff everytime I make an update (i.e. I make the main Mod data packed as a single archive on one side, and the HOG file with the levels in it as a separate archive on the other side).
But IMHO, I rather prefer to make Youtube videos, as they are easier to make and also serves pretty well to show the levels in their different stages of development.

Re: Pumo Mines Thread
Pumo,
I wouldn't hand out parts of the mission all the time before it is finished. You have made a nice preview with the 3 level Kartsal Motivation teaser, that's enough. Now rather surprise us with the finished mission.
Btw, if you want to, I can look over the lighting of your mission again.

Yeah, I also think it's much better that way.
And as soon as I finish some texturing and small structure details on level 5, I will send both Level 4 and 5 to you if you want to check out the lighting.

Re: Pumo Mines Thread
I agree that it is impossible to distribute crude materials of work. It is possible to spread only such work that all told is cool! I meant that even if it would be now possible to try to pass at least one mission, it would be easier to wait other missions

Lol, you've undermined your point like a virally infected -- well, finishing that sentence would be spoilers about Sol Contingency.
I agree though, and I'm even wondering whether you should do an open beta test, Pumo. If you do I doubt there will be anybody here -- or in the rest of the Descent community! -- who hasn't played it by the time it's released.
BTW I've been meaning to report a bug I found in level 2 and level 3 on sourceforge (it's a D2X-XL issue, but one that's not really relevant in many other missions. But it makes level 2 near-unfinishable and level 3 actually unfinishable, which would be more of an issue if I hadn't already played through them ten times by the time the issue came up). I'll get around to that very soon I think. I've been really busy with writing for Sol Contingency and catching up with the music for LUX, not to mention reshingling a garage...
We live in a universe... It's distracting

Re: Pumo Mines Thread
I know of a passability bug on Level 2 IIRC, but as for know I'm mainly working on the new levels.
Retouching Levels 1 to 3 is a plan I do have for the future, so I will take that opportunity to fix bugs and add some new stuff.
But as for now, I do have some new stuff to show of Level 6.
That is, some new screenshots of the progress on it so far, of course, without correct lighting and without hi-res textures, as always.

Those were the first in-game screenshots I've taken of Level 6, hope you like how it's developing.
And also, as traditional, a general view of the level as it's now:

I see that the overall mission is about 56%! Now that is a huge leap from the previous 22% I saw a heck of a long time ago!

Yeah, although I don't think that Sol Contingency would prevent me from putting attention to my beloved project!
I'm making some new stuff fortunately, and I'm starting (at last) to work on Level 8, but due to some real life stuff it is goin' a bit slow.

Hehe, yeah, sometimes I would like to, but it's very hard to take that reality away, lol!
But no problem, there's something tasty being baked on the oven since some time, I will see if I can post about it during the week.

Re: Pumo Mines Thread
A small update here. I've just installed latest D2X-XL version and everything seems to be working mostly right (made a few bug reports, but nothing too serious).
The thing is, I've not just updated my D2X-XL installation, but also lots of stuff for Pumo Mines.
I've been working (since two to three weeks aproximately in a row) to prepare something very good and important for my project.
As Pumo Mines is planned to be THE mission/mod that will use the most of D2X-XL features, there are some changes, as well as progress here and there, but won't say what it is until I'm able to post some teaser stuff.
For the record, I've also made a new big piece of Level 6, made some nice progress on Level 8 (as of today I have the main hub mostly done and incorporated the piece Blarget sent to me), and also started with levels 9 and 17. I'm now making multiple levels at once constantly to make a bit more of progress.
Also, to increase development rythm, I've made some very substantial changes to the project, but will tell about that later.
I will have to update my signature and the total progress percentage very soon, so stay tuned as I will post some interesting stuff pretty soon.
