Does eye rolling mean something different in other countries from mine?

Culture - or the way we do things around here.

Postby Weyrman » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:06 am

I don't think so Sirius, It can translate 2 ways though. As a sarcastic "roll the eyes" or a "tongue in cheek" cheeky roll the eyes - "I know I shouldn't be hassling you about this but I just couldn't help myself" type of cheek.

But then again, as we are virtually neighbours, maybe them far away "foreigners" do interpret it differently

I think it's a "tongue in cheek" this time (although i may be wrong).

Well, i'm still workin' hard on Pumo Mines. However, rendering the level intro movie is taking long (and i'm rendering it in parts) and i still need to make some touch-ups to the briefing BG graphics.

Yeah it's just that I've always seen it to indicate sarcasm, frustration, derision etc.

I think the eye roll smiley's reception mostly depends on the recipient. For me it has no sarcastic notion at all.

Just to let you know that i'm still working on Pumo Mines, here's a bit of the new stuff i've done:

Some briefing screens (the original in-game size of the screens is 1024x768):

There is also a new reactor model on level 1, as well as an intro movie for the level ;)
I'm also starting to make a turret model and preparing the level to have ambient sounds!! (since i've managed to put ambient sounds on my Pumo Mines levels without problems) :D

This is taking long that expected (due to lack of time), but i hope that as soon as i finish the turret/ambient sound stuff, i can finally release the new version.

Wow! Pumo mines is becoming an entirely new game that just happens to use the D2X-XL engine!

I especially like that second briefing screen. (Mostly because I can actually see the characters in colour. ;))
We live in a universe... It's distracting

I noticed the freshly varnished table reflections, nice touch. What are you using to make those images?

I could say yes, there are some news.

Lev. 1 Briefing graphics are almost done (i've just recently added color to a draw of one of the characters) and hopefully i can start to make those new turrets soon...
It's just that i've been delayed 'cause of my work, but today i may continue, at least a bit...

Since i will travel for a few days, i want to show you one of the new things i made for the briefing screens before i leave...
This is the colored version of the first MD you will play with (Pumo Mines includes 3 different MDs according to the mission and the story).

Check it out. His MD name is Vertex9 and his real name is Pumi :P
