If I would lead development of Descent 4, you'd be one of my level designers! :thumb:

When your installer asked for a folder in the start menu it should create I aborted the installation. :thumbdn: WTH do I need a start menu folder for a Descent 2 mission.

One question: What's that pyrogl.ase and ship textures in your Pumo Mines tar file? Are you overwriting MB's ship model with a custom ship? Same goes for stuff like aftrbrn#0.tga and stuff like that: Are you overwriting standard textures with custom ones?

Oh, I understand: You are delivering a complete Descent 2 environment! That sucks. If you need a way to incorporate your own custom ASE models and textures in a mission that should overload the default ones, but not overwrite them, why don't you ask me to expand the hog format?

I have made a clean install and copied the stuff from the tar file into it. Here's what I have seen so far:

Missing textures:

Strange robots (appeared when shooting at the boxes):

Looks like popok.pig doesn't get read.

The reactor looks fricken awesome. :thumb:

Yeap, i'm using using new textures/data/models folders with my own stuff.
Check the readme file included onto the tar.gz file and check the installation section for extra details. ;)

It seems that you're getting missing texture problems 'cause you put the D2X-XL hi-res textures pack on top of Pumo Mines textures folder.

You'll need to unpack ALL contents from the tar to a completely new directory (appart from Descent 2 one) with all subfolder structure, and then copy only the D2 PIGs to the new created Pumo Mines 'Data' folder and the main D2X-XL executable files & DLLs only on the main Pumo Mines folder, and everything should work fine.

Don't put Pumo Mines installation on top of your D2 installation as some 'undesirable' effects my occur (like the ones you're experiencing :P )
Also, don't put D2X-XL textures/models pack on top of a Pumo Mines installation as those also affects the game.

I must admit that for this very reason, some customizations to D2X-XL would fit very well! (as you said, support for ASE and hi-res TGA textures inside HOG files as well as a way to call alternate versions of the main HOG and HAM files from D2, e.g. pumomine.hog & pumomine.ham)
but i wanted to release a version that works with the current D2X-XL version right now ;)
(although i know the install process is a mess  .
that's why i recommend using the setup program on the Windows version )

BTW, i'm glad to see you liked the reactor model! :D (i will also make new models for the rest of available reactors!)

Yeah it took me a reinnstall to realize that, if you run the setup program for pumo mines, and then intsall d2x-xl in the same directory, then it all works! Its a completely new d2x-xl environment!!! i didnt realize thats what you were going for pumo, its really good! good effort, i havnt seen any missing textures yet either....

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to turn the Red Guard into a pack of crates...

After some delay, i'm here again to show a bit of the progress i'm making on Pumo Mines.
I'm starting to make Level 2 structure, an i will post some screenies here (note that this version of Level 2 is raw, without colored lighting, hi-res textures and all the stuff, as i'm still making the level on Devil):

I think the level may have a red/orangish light color scheme. ;)

I have mostly done Levels 3 & 6 (just need to make some touch-ups) as well as rough versions of Secret Level 1 & Level 4.

I really really hate your installation procedure for PMC mines. I don't want to create a 2nd D2X-XL installation just to make it run - and get a huge download just for data I already have (the Descent 2 data). I have made propositions how to enhance D2X-XL to accomodate for the special needs of PMC mines.

It would be really nice to have a better installation method :P
I sent you a response e-mail some time ago with a few ideas i had for a better Pumo Mines installation, but if you have a better idea, i would be very glad to know more! :D

A way to read custom .HAM files (main Descent2.ham style, not d2x.ham style) to read custom weapon and texture/wclip/eclip information but without requiring the original D2 HAM file would be very nice, as well as a custom HOG file support with PIG palette information (more specific, .256 files) and main TXB files modifications ;)

I also can remember that you said something about cusom texture folders specific for each mission. Do you think is possible to have also a per level texture and model folder? (e.g. TEXTURES\PM(or whatever mission name)\LEVEL01 and MODELS\PM\LEVEL01). Of course, do what you think it's best and without too much work.

Just as a side note (and just in case you didn't received the e-mail) here is a copy of what i requested for on the E-Mail:

Support for custom main HOG, HAM & S22 files (e.g. pumomine.hog, pumomine.ham & pumomine.s22), as well as support for custom textures & models in a new mission textures/models folder (as you proposed ;) ).

Also, i would be glad to see a few color changes to some elements in game (maybe activated with a new switch on the d2x.ini specific to Pumo Mines):

I would like white lightnings when you're recharging on fuel centers (instead of yellow ones) and bluish/green lightnings for repair centers (instead of light blue), as well as the Fusion recharge screen color from purple to intense yellowish green (to match the Pumo Mines custom weapon). Of course, as i already said, this color changes may be activated with an alternate d2x.ini switch (to not interfere with original colors designed for normal D2 play).

Of course, i hope this is not too much effort. If it's too much, just do the basics (custom sounds/models/textures and HAM file per mission) without color modifications.
I don't want to give you a lot of work, 'cause as i said before, you've added already a LOT of features to D2X-XL ;)
