Mission link fixed.

Pumo, you can easily halve the volume of your sounds.

Yeap, i know, but i want to make newer versions not only less louder, but without the 8-bit artifacts (that little kind of dithered noise) and with some subtle stereo effects :o

You know, for me the fact the hi-res sounds are working flawlessly now brings my audiophile instinct to life :P

I have again been bombarded with bug reports by Pumo - the guy really notices everything. :wallbash:

Actually that's good though, Pumo. :thumb: You deserve a medal for your help with the mod. :D

I have been looking extensively into the crash when grabbing the red key issue, even to the extent of creating a new player profile and using it 'as is', and I couldn't detect any crashes so far, neither on MS Windows with debug and release versions of the program, nor on Linux with a debug version (I am currently preparing a release version there for a final test).

One potential reason for program crashes might be not having installed D2X-XL's additional textures in textures/d2x-xl. Make sure to extract the complete beta rar file to the D2X-XL main folder!

Crashes during transition from a level to the next had various causes which have been fixed.

If the Linux version proves to be alright, I will release beta 16 tonight.

lol!
It seems like i multiply myself to test D2X-XL as a team (or maybe i take a bit of help from my PMC team: Pumi, Shinnomeh, Kartsal, etc :P )

Anyway, thanks for the comment :)
I do this 'cause D2X-XL is like the next Descent generation i always dreamed of!

About the red key problem, i couldn't reproduce it either, so you may be right. I also suppose there's something wrong on some D2X-XL installations out there...

I have good news for you: There is another beta version, and again it has gained stability. I have found a bug in the transparency renderer that could cause the program to freeze particularly when rendering smoke or lightnings (i.e. a lot of transparent items, so that chances were high some had the same distance from the viewer).

Another evil bug I squashed was that lightmap calculation didn't work properly when shadows were turned on.

New scores appeared near the reticle and not in the score box of the status bar HUD; fixed that too.

Grab the new beta here:

Btw, I have uploaded a bunch of new hires doors for Descent 1 and added a rock001 texture to the Descent 1 rock textures. Descent 1 never looked so good:

Pumo and Weyrman have found a few smaller issues, nothing wild though.

This game doesn't even work on my computer any more with the latest beta. I have a 64-bit setup and has anyone else here tested in Linux with the 64-bit build because I have more bugs than I can count on both hands? Lots and lots of lockup points.

I have no problems on my 64 bit Linux machine. Did you properly install the extra image files in textures/d2x-xl? You better have dude, because I hate people who complain but didn't do their homework first.

Fixed a few issues Pumo has found, and homing missiles now navigate around corner instead of hitting them (something that had upset me for a looooong time).

Yes I have installed the new textures. I updated all of the files from the latest beta. Most of the bugs I am experiencing are filed.

Isn't that the point of the corner? To provide cover from those things?
