How come I can't get D1 Briefing Audios To Work?

Postby pyro_2009 » Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:49 am

I have the EXTRA.HOG file in my /data folder (I downloaded a fresh copy from the website, in case mine was corrupted), and according to my d2x.log, D2X-XL recognizes that the extra.hog is in the proper place... but the briefing audios never play when I load a D1:FS Level. Can anyone see what I might be doing wrong?

EDIT: If anyone needs to see my d2x.ini, plr file, etc. Here's the link for it:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2708768&group_id=155890&atid=797586
Just scroll down to the bottom and download the file(s) you'd like to view  . Also, the d2x.log file I have posted there may not be adequate for this problem; let me know if I should generate a log file should with a D1 test case instead of D2.

In the d2x.ini. Is the switch for D1 sound set to 1 or 0?

Code: Select all

;set the following value to 0 to use Descent 2 sounds in Descent 1 levels
-use_d1sounds 1

Aus-Red-5: Yes, I do have -use_d1sounds set to 1. If you'd like to take a look at my d2x.ini file, it can be found in the link on my first post.

Is this problem under XP or Win7?

If under XP? Could be a bug.

But then I don't know. I haven't had a chance to see if this problem happens to me as well.

It happens under both. I thought it must be a bug of some sort, but Diedel said he doesn't have this problem... If anyone else notices that their D1 briefing audios don't play, I'd like to know... because I'd feel better knowing I wasn't alone  .

Put extra.hog in the data subfolder and you should hear the additional D1 briefing audios which are e.g. read out when robot briefings are displayed.

I just checked again; extra.hog is indeed in my data subfolder. But D1 briefing audios don't play...

I checked my d2x.log; one line reads found hog file 'extra.hog', so D2X-XL sees the file... My extra.hog is a fresh copy that I recently downloaded from the D2X-XL downloads site (to avoid corruption issues).

Just to reiterate, I have this problem when running D2X-XL under WinXP (and Win7 also).

I don't need your reiterations, I am not too dumb to read.

I cannot help you with that.

I did not mean reiterate, I just wanted to clarify under what OS is this problem occurring.

Does anyone have trouble using the briefing audios? Is this some sort of bug that's needs reporting? 'Cause I can take care of the reporting if it is a bug 8) .

You are talking rubbish. You did reiterate, you even stated it. And now shut up instead of trying to justify what cannot be justified! You are a person who doesn't know when to stop and be quiet. Are you by any chance a woman?

Am I a woman?
...

Wow, I've never been asked that before; I guess there is a first time for everything  .
In fact, I find your attempt to question my manhood somewhat offensive  , but I will let it go... this time  .

I let you know now that I am quite difficult to piss off, but if you guys are gonna start ganging up on me...then my evil inner self may just come loose on you . I'd prefer if that didn't happen though  .

But you are right, perhaps I should cut back on the idle pointless chitchat and focus on what I'm really here for--finding and reporting bugs.

So in that respect... back to the D1 Briefing Audios! Does anyone have any idea why my D2X-XL may not be playing the briefing audios? Do hi-res sounds need to be enabled before they will play (because I have them off right now)?

Honestly I have only seen it work once on my computer then it immediately stopped working the next time I loaded the D1 missions. Thing is for me, It doesn't even skip the default briefing properly anymore. It will launch go trough the robot descriptions but the background panels are that of the briefing and it will keep cycling trough the robot descriptions till the briefing is over. I have always had hires sounds and D1sounds turned on. All in all I have decided that I can live with out it.
