DLE.NET still planned?
I came across a C# sub-project called DLE.NET in the SVN and it rather excited me thinking DLE has a .NET remake in the works. How is that coming along? It's been untouched for 5 months.
Also, as for DLE-XP, would it be extremely difficult to port to wxWidgets? It's pretty much the best candidate for cross-platform MFC and I've seen a lot of similarities.

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
No time for C# right now.
MFC -> wxWidgets? Sounds like a lot of pain to me.

I was looking at the API reference and they seem similar is all.

Don't forget that Karx has a real life and a family too -- however if you had the skills to port it and you got his permission...
We live in a universe... It's distracting

Well, you'd sure have my blessings if you wanted to port DLE-XP to wxWidgets.

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
Well, I do know intermediately about C++ but I flat out suck learning big APIs or figuring out someone else's work. It's kind of like writer's block. I don't know where to start and it seems to be a method of "this thing's connected to the... other thing"
I guess I look at someone else's code the way a surgeon looks at a cut open patient on the operating table -- so much stuff to do, and one small change could mess the whole thing up.

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
Well I do have a book on learning wxWidgets but it's rather outdated. It's for 2.6.x and I've got 2.9.1.

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
There usually aren't big API changes within a major release.
Why would you want to port DLE-XP when you own a Windows PC?

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
Most people who want to create or edit Descent / Descent 2 levels seem to have access to Windows. The ones who don't may well have access to Linux/Wine (assuming DLE-XP works through that, but it's not one of the most demanding applications). Unless you have a huge number of such friends to keep happy, it's probably not really worth the time investment - much quicker to set up a few systems capable of running DLE-XP than to rewrite DLE-XP for wxWidgets.

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
There are several thousand D2X-XL users (to judge from the download numbers), but maybe 5 level designers. Statistically seen, I doubt any of your Mac owning friends would want to start using DLE-XP.
You have an "interest" in Linux? Is that what you said, a mere "interest", or actuall skill and knowledge? You don't really believe that a mere "interest" in Linux will get you anywhere in regard to porting DLE-XP over to it, do you?

Re: DLE.NET still planned?
I used to use Mac OS X and I also dabbled with Ubuntu a few times. I'm hoping to get another 1 TB drive this year to take up the second internal drive slot on my motherboard. I'll definately be putting Ubuntu on it.
