New D2 Multiplayer Level - Infernal Cavern

Postby darkflamewolf » Tue Jan 03, 2012 6:55 am

A great, small anarchy map that consists of two lava corridors connecting two larger cavern rooms. In the middle is a moderately large connecting room. The level isn't boxy and it has a lot of freeform design throughout. Lots of room and space to breath as well as a few sections for tunnel ratting. Good for 2 players and stretching the limit at 6.
Weapon Loadout:
8 Afterburners
3 Quad Lasers
6 Super Lasers
4 Plasma Cannons
2 Gauss Cannons
2 Fusion Cannons
1 Phoenix Cannon
6 Vulcan Ammo
1 4-pack Homing Missile
1 4-pack Guided Missile
2 4-pack Flash Missile
3 4-pack Mercury Missile
2 Proximity Bomb Packs
4 Smart Missile
1 Mega Missile (Hidden)

Now I expect a lot of playing out of this one! I tried my best to make it flow smooth and have lots of ways to get from every location from each location! Hopefully you all enjoy it! It was a blast to play in it when I went to test it!

Extra Note to Diedel: Yes, I did take your lighting changes and kept them. The only thing I really altered back the way it was, was the new textures. I decided to keep them as is. Thanks for the extra suggestions and I kept those changes in and intact. So kudos for that. :) (no light textures!)

You're welcome. If I had been you, I'd have taken the little extra effort of creating bitmaps from the TGAs I had used to make the level universally compatible. Making the level completely Quake textured might have given it an interesting visual twist, too.

What I definitely don't want here are screenshots with a big Stillbirth logo print in one corner. You take my help, then post something like that here.

dude, its not a competition, its the only thing that'll work on my laptop I have currently out here while I'm deployed. I didn't really have another choice in gathering screenshots.

This is not about competition. It was simply thoughtless and inappropriate. You know my stance about Stillbirth. I don't want any reference to this crap here. All it has achieved was to be a sink for all haters of D2X-XL and of myself (infesting a lot of people with the same attitude who didn't even know me or the program), splitting the Descent community, preventing the adoption of a common better Descent 1 and 2 standard, pulling a lot of resources away from D2X-XL that would have yielded a great benefit for the Descent community when putting their efforts into building D2X-XL levels and would have certainly been a great help to improve and stabilize D2X-XL. As good as all innovation of the last 7+ years in the Descent area has come from the D2X-XL team, with Stillbirth adopting and copying what they could of it, all the way making sure it wouldn't be compatible (like tracker support: A different standard again - don't tell me they'd not be splitting the community, just like it was when I tried to create a uniform multiplayer protocol and the Stillbirth author ruined it at the cost of all the multiplayer fans who until now still have difficulties to get well filled multiplayer games going). Zico could have had an important place in the D2X-XL project, he could have learned a lot from me programming wise (I love to work together with other people at eye height - but they got to get there first), but all I've ever got to hear was accusations, putting down my offers of sharing my skill as arrogance. It would have been a chance for all Descent coders to learn C++, structured programming, design pattern application, shader programming and other advanced OpenGL techniques from an IT crack with over 20 years of professional experience. I can just dream of where D2X-XL might have gotten if all the resources had bundled their efforts and had inspired and motivated each other. I have shown often enough that I was willing to even reconcile and get my worst critics into the boat. They just didn't want to though. They put their own resentments and selfish unforgiveness over the common good of the Descent community. I always was a very constructive person, and that hasn't changed to this day. There were however people whos delight and only real concern was to be destructive, and too few people noticed, understood and resisted that. There can hardly be more proof how dumb and low people can be, and how biased by their own limitations their judgement is. This is what I call arrogance: The lack of the kind of humility that makes you question yourself and your motives from time to time.

I have also understood that many people don't understand my stance in this issue. That's because they don't see the big picture. All they see is two Descent versions, both of which work for them, and either of which they can use. They don't envision what could be there, but isn't.

Gah. I have said it often enough, people have heard it often enough, so don't remind me of it.

D2X-XL -pureD2 doesn't work on your laptop? I had tested it on a really low-end notebook that only had Intel integrated graphics, and it worked quite well even without -pureD2 by just disabling shaders via d2x.ini (-use_shaders 0).

Now THAT I can agree on! Just wish it didn't cost $24 for 12 cans in this country! LOL

You can post them up here if you'd like. They are pretty awesome. Diedel would love to see them! :)
